Re: Map Strategies
You do realize the assets respawn, right? Allowing squad leaders to bail from jets, mainly at the beginning of the round, is best for the team. Obviously there is no rule that states that squad leaders get first dibs on jets, but a real teamplayer will recognize who will bail from the jet and sacrifice two minutes of their time to wait for the SL to bail and the jet to respawn. Hell, on a map like Wake, it's almost a requirement to get a flag.

Re: Map Strategies
While I understand your concern on this..you still have new players that don't know this but will learn over time, once these new players get stuck with nothing they will often times leave a server for another which isn't what you want. What happens at the start of a round is people chatting about why they should get the jet..why they should get the chopper "Pro's only" etc etc etc... I'm a damn good player..but I'll yield getting into something to what appears to be a newer player much of the time, makes them feel like part of the team. As you stated - Assets do respawn.

Re: Map Strategies
It's commendable if you willing to give up assets to newer players. I'll give you props for that. However, the only time I really see people start bitching about who's flying is when the other team has good pilots and our team's pilots can't do anything, which means our team is getting raped, and when they have a helo gunner who doesn't know what to do. I still think it is better to let SL's take the jets and bail, though, because if they don't, it could lead to being held to one flag and getting raped. That will cause more people to disconnect than making someone wait an extra minute for a jet.

Re: Map Strategies
I disagree. What you're describing isn't a team player interested in finding a server where they can work together with their squad and team to win. The type of player that leaves the server when they get stuck with "nothing" is just another air whore that only joined the server because they saw an air map was up and they were looking to fly. Once they don't get their toy, they go look elsewhere to play. Good riddance!

Re: Map Strategies
Going to have to disagree with your disagree, I didn't say everyone was looking to fly something, I said "Vehicles" that means anything. If you haven't played the game long enough to tell the difference between a player just starting out to a pro "waiting to get their toy" as you put it, then maybe ya should step back and watch a while.

Re: Map Strategies
It's still in the team's best interest to give a SL a jet so they can bail on a flag. They're aren't any flags you can cap with a jet. Having a jet in the sky is like having a tank - you kill or supress the other team with it. However, the problem remains that you still can't cap flags.
The ability for a team to cap a flag and create a spawn point is critcal. For example, Wake Island & Dalian Plant, the US starts w/a ticket bleed and no flags. Or how about any other map where if a strategical flag is taken at the very beginning it cripples the other team by canceling out the enemy's ability to use an asset that would otherwise spawn at the flag (i.e. Zatar Wetlands - Central Island [Attack Helo]). You can fly around for the whole round and rack up alot of kills while your team sits on the carrier getting pwned by the enemy commanders arty - and in the end YOU still lose.
Complaining about the lack of a new persons ability to grab a jet in the first 1 min of the round and how it scares them away from the server isn't a very good argument. The server and the TEAMPLAYER oriented people shouldn't have to put up with this. If left unchecked, you would get 10-20 asshats sitting on the carrier waiting for their "turn" to use an asset and not help their team. The vast majority of the BF2 servers suffer from asset whores, who think of themselves and not others. DO you want TPG to end up like all the other loser servers out there?
If a new person wants to use a jet and it is unavailable, they have a choice. They may choose to learn the game, or they may choose to cry about it and leave. It's that simple.

Re: Map Strategies
What you said was "...planes or choppers..." and "...any vehicle such as a plane...". Clearly you're talking about air assets BECAUSE you specifically took issue with SL using jets to bail out of. Don't backtrack now. I've played the game plenty long to know the difference and I've watched you play and know exactly what type of player you are.

Re: Map Strategies
I have to use examples... planes and choppers were main examples since there are humvee's or buggies all over the place. Kinda hard to use those as examples when they are not widely used. And I'm flattered you've watched me play, I go jump in something when I can but I've yielded many times on many servers over the last 5 years to other players I feel they are new and would like a chance at using something. Again.. its a game, only a game so just treat it as such and have fun

Re: Map Strategies
no map strat will ever come close to beating the awesomeness that was my daqing oilfield strat in our first scrim against fcw.
half the team performed absolutely brilliantly, with airdrops at east oil and airfield. unfortunately, the half that didn't even bother to find out what the strat was performed miserably... ceste la vi.

Re: Map Strategies
TBM, the game is coming up on 6 years old. Exactly how many brand new players do you think are entering the game on a nightly basis? You make is sound like there is a constant flood of newbs to the game. I would love it if that were the case but its not. You get the occasional private which again is great but I have never seen them go straight for a jet. These dudes want to figure out how to shoot straight before they get in the air.
What I'm hearing is more "man screw those guys that think they're so great" and less "I think this would be better for the team". Like Fovezer said, the shit spawns back in 2 minutes, I'm fairly sure you can wait the 2 minutes, or 4, or even 6 it might take for you to get in that jet. Ultimately, if the squad who is using the jet is actually able to obtain their objective, you will have a much better time in the air with no opposition. Especially a pilot like yourself.
Edited because I feel retarded saying buttman.Last edited by visuvius; 08-17-10 at 12:38 PM.
