Now EA claims "All played stats and accounts will remain unchanged during this transfer." but we know they love to fuck things up.
Thanks for the response. I saw WileECyte's forum post (from the 23rd) just after I posted, so the info was there - I just didn't see it.

I also experienced the delight of losing my connection to the server at the end of rounds. I reconnected a few times, but that gets old fast.

Seems like the stats server is still off line. Their estimate of 5 or 6 hours lapse in service was - optimistic.

    Anyway, thanks for the info.

    Cheers,

The actual game server's not down, just the EA stats server.
PR server is just a BF2 server running a mod. If PR servers are unranked and don't use the EA unlock system, then PR should be working fine (well better than vBF2/2142/BC)

You will still get your random disconnects until everything is sorted out.

Is this tested? I don't see why not; because PR is obviously not caring about posting a score to EA ranks or unlocks why does it need to talk to that server? You get discoed at the end of each round on vBF2 because it tries to post your score, and evaluate/post any awards/medals/promotions/unlocks you may have accumulated during that round. If it is kicking on PR then the only reason I can see is anti-hacking (which ostensibly I can't see EA controlling in an unranked server anyway, since unranked servers don't even need to enforce punkbuster).

It doesn't matter if it is Vanilla or PR or any other mod for bf2. They all go through the EA server which is having the issues.

uh, do you even know which EA server we're talking about? There is the EA account server (which is the same account server used to do things like log into BF2/BC2/2142 but also EA.com/gamespy/d2d/fileplanet/ign). That obviously works, since otherwise it wouldn't let you login at all (which throws a unique error completely different than the one we're seeing anyway). There's a second service that stores and manages soldier stats. This is the service that is down. However BF2 only crashes upon trying to write to it, which it only does when it tries to update the server with results from the round that just finished. If the game does not need write access to the server, then there should be no crash. In all likelihood there is a cookie mechanism that says "if unable to write to stats server, presume the cached credentials are now invalid, kick user to login screen." Having been a designer of various authentication services, I do not believe it is an entirely bad inference to make.

Like I asked, do you have proof that unranked and/or modded servers have this problem? An unranked server has no reason to talk to EA (in particular the soldier stats server); it should be operating in the same mode as starting up a LAN game on your localhost. Are you or were you on the PR server tonight or last night? I haven't bothered to check the EA forums myself but if you find a relevant thread addressing this issue that might shed some light on these speculations.

    Re: EA problems?

Why else would i be posting about it ?

It's not just the stats server with the issues.
