US 'serial killer' gets 438 years

A US court has sentenced a suspected serial killer to 438 years in jail for sexual assaults of two sisters in 2005.

Mark Goudeau attacked the women as they were walking from a park in the city of Phoenix, Arizona. One of the victims was six months pregnant at the time.

Goudeau, suspected of being the Baseline Killer, is also facing trial in connection with the murder of eight other women and a man in 2005-06.

If convicted, he could face a death sentence. He has pleaded not guilty.

Goudeau, 43, was sentenced by the Maricopa County Superior Court, following his conviction in September on charges of raping one woman and sexually attacking another.

During the two-month trial, both sisters identified the former construction worker as their attacker. DNA evidence also linked him to rape.

Goudeau had argued that he was innocent, saying that he "had nothing to do" with the assaults.

He is one of three men arrested last year in Phoenix suspected by the authorities of being the serial killers behind a spate of murders that caused serious concern among the city's residents.

Goudeau is suspected of being a serial killer dubbed the Baseline Killer, named after a street in south Phoenix where several of the attacks took place.

Y'ouch.

People get all upset about the ludicrous sentences, but it's just done to ensure that they cannot get paroled.

Not at all pointless, is it? *rolleyes* Why give someone a stupid sentence such as this? It's just looks silly on paper and makes a laughing stock out of the system. The guy is 43, so even if he lives until 86 he'll only be serving 10% of his setence. Stupid. Why not just say 'life' and mean it? Why not start capital punishment for crimes like this?

Agreed. The system needs to actually enforce life sentences, or use captiol punishment in worse cases. You see murderers and such get out years before they're due to all the time.

Because he didn't commit the crime in Texas. Every other state (that hasn't outlawed capital punishment) is wrought with religion over-zealousness, and unfortunately, these nuts take "thou shall not kill" to the extreme, even when the prick deserves it.

Not religion nuts.......liberal extremist who are all "peace" and "try to understand them" They just throw a few religious sayings in there to try to justify their stupidity.

It does not matter if you execute them or give them life in prison... there is no way to reduce crimes like this.

It's impossible to rehabilitate a serial killer. Save the state some money and off the prick.
