Fixed AA sites like BF2 had are not a deterrent to jets in the slightest. Most good pilots know where they all are, and know how to approach them and they can destroy them with guns long before the AA site can even get a lock on the jet. Mobile AA units were OK but huge rolling targets. Shoulder-fired AA, like in 2142, was effective mainly because they don't get a giant box painted on them for easy hunting by the gunships. Good pilots could still effectively evade, but they were much more of a deterrent than fixed sites ever were.

But here is the Darwinian clause: Good pilots are not bred, they evolve from crashing newbie to air whores. They are good because they log a lot of times on planes. Good players take less time to become good, a few make it to great. And there is the law of diminishing return.
In short, BF2 as it is doesn't make it hard to be an ordinary pilot with thousands of kills...........
Shoulder firing sam would cull the hurd......
