The flight physics are actually a great example of why BF3 is a sequel to BF2 and part of the Core Battlefield Franchise. The prevailing design philosophy of the Battlefield Core has always been Easy to Use, Difficult to Master. Bad Company had greater emphasis on Easy To Use. We're approaching BF3 with an emphasis on Difficult to Master, and that Design Philosophy is prevalent throughout all parts of BF3. I've learned a lot from working on Bad Company, I'm convinced it's possible to maintain the incredibly deep game play of Battlefield without putting off new gamers. And it's incredibly important we keep that depth. Our goal with the BC2 flight mechanics was to create an easy to pickup and fly flight model. We did just that and thus I feel like we succeeded. I love the fact it took me over an hour to learn how to stabilize the blackhawk in BF2, and over 2hrs to be able to fly an apache without crashing into the ground! That kind of complexity was the reason BF2 lasted as long as it did! The game is over 7 years old and still has a loyal fanbase.... The complexity played a big part in this!

I have my fingers crossed for them making air more similar to 2142. Very effective if going unchallenged, but possible to deal with using infantry.

It was so rewarding learning how to dust people with the transport in 2142.

well look at it the other way: you still have lopsided rounds in BF2 due to lack of pilots on one side. So does "difficult to master" really help out teamplay?

The problem with the chopper in bc2 is the flight area is so small it gets very boring.

I'd rather it still be difficult. Lack of pilots on one side you say? Learn to fly.

    This.

The aircraft in both BC2 and 2142 are lame as shit. Boring as Hell to fly, and not nearly as threatening to ground pounders. The aircraft are SUPPOSED to be the most powerful weapons on the battlefield....bar none. The balance comes with the difficulty to master them, and the patience and practice it takes to do so. Look at many of the GREAT pilots we have around here, H7, Carey, (2)Manno ...just to name a few... and every one of them will tell you that there are even better pilots out there. You will never see that kind of depth when the vehicles are dumbed-down like they are in BC2 and 2142....never.

I'm not saying they are perfect, by any means, but I would rather have them err to the side of difficulty, than to have the disappointment that BC2 and 2142 air vehicles bring.

I would guess you haven't played much 2142. Unless you are Yourself, who flies on his own, gunships need 2 people to be effective. But when you have two experienced people in a gunship, it wrecks the everything in the game.
