Re: BF3 Fact & Videos Updated
He mentioned channels. I don't know if it has different channels for different thing that you are able to switch. Like everyone in an air vehicle, or your immediate area, squad, squad leaders, etc. Might be like channels on a radio or something. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Re: BF3 Fact & Videos Updated
Good points -- I like the suggestion about the squad channel and the squad-leader channel. I think that the state of the art has gotten to the point where a "relative proximity" system would be feasible. The tweet by Demize is indeed cryptic, so what he means by "picking channels" is open to interpretation -- he wrote this on an iPad, so it's possible that he didn't put a hell of a lot of thought into what he was saying. He's also young (Alan Kertz | LinkedIn), so it's entirely possible he just shot from the hip when he wrote this.
I think it's important to remember 2 things in this discussion on VOIP:
1) DICE has been doing VOIP for some time now
2) DICE knows that a lot of people like the way VOIP works in BF2
Although I'm similarly concerned about the potential for spamming in a 32-player voice chatroom, I would bet that if that were a feature, the server would be able to disable it in favor of "channels," whatever that means.
The reason that VOIP was nonexistant in BC2 was not a change of heart vis a vis VOIP in Stockholm, but because it was a rushed port from console.Last edited by timekiller; 09-07-11 at 06:22 PM.

But I will say that I would not be surprised if BF3 ships without consistently working VoIP. Not in the least. Wouldn't you expect VoIP to exist in BC2 once they figured out how to get it to work for BF3?

Re: BF3 Fact & Videos Updated
I respect your decision to remain silent about what you saw as part of your experience in the Alpha, but if you think that DICE is going to come after you for talking about the VOIP you used in general terms, you're nuts. I would estimate from what I saw on video that there were 5,000 people that played the game at E3 and the other convention they hyped so hard in Germany -- all those folks are required to stay silent about what they saw? No way...
