It is ok but it also doesn't support mods, and umodded Arma2 is crap (it's only going to be vanilla CTI (capture the island) or squad deathmatch basically)

Hosting an Arma2 server was a giant pain in the ass before when we tried it. However, Project Reality is out for it (operation arrowhead expansion) and it might require less "hands-on" management than typical servers (usually in the form of dealing with map glitches and crashes and scripting scenarios and all that). The primary problem of revisiting Arma2 as I was told was that is considered an old game and getting the needed server population would be difficult, more difficult than BF2:PR

I think Nuclear Dawn is great too. The community just isn't there. (yet?)

plus didn't people seem to complain that the only way to win rounds is to baserape the opposition after a bunch of control points get destroyed? (i.e. once those are destroyed, the defenders have no way to win - they should have designed the map/scenario so that once the last defensible position is destroyed, the round ends and attackers like in Battlefield Rush modes).

Not quite like you explain, but that's just the way the game ends. I have no problem with it personally. You have to destroy the command bunker to win the game and (generally) the team that pushes the other back to the command bunker will leave the spawn point in the base last. So yeah, you will be spawn camped for the last minute of gameplay. But it doesn't matter because the game is really over once you let them push you back so far.

The only people who really seem to care are those that care about K/D ratios... which are meaningless in that game as there are no tickets or anything of the sort.

I almost cried reading this.

I haven't been around TPG for quite some time now and was looking forward to the release of BF3. I am eager to run around with some old gaming friends.. I played the beta and thought the game play was pretty good, but it didn't feel like battlefield to me. No VOIP, no teamwork... Just a bunch of people running around aimlessly killing each other.

Now after hearing that they are not going to release it with VOIP is a huge let down to anyone who believes in the "team" aspect of FPS's. Battlefield 2 is what brought me here, Battlefield 3 will not be bringing me back.

EA and their games have been getting worse and worse with each release. The same shit, with different toys. They've jumped on the bandwagon of "market gaming" where the only content you get, is content that makes their pockets bigger. But I guess, I cant really blame them. Team players are a rare breed these days. I would be highly surprised if BF3 succeeds on a long term basis like it's predecessor, BF2. I doubt it will even meet their own goals and requirements. It's gonna fail, maybe not at first, but a year from now, If they don't add the essential features, Bf3 will be a forgotten game. In fact, I'll be bold enough to say this will be their last game ever developed, for PC.

I still have some hope. As long as there are communities (like TPG) full of people that love gaming and games for more then just the aesthetics, and initial excitement; There is hope to be had. It's only a matter of time and waiting really. I have no idea wwho is going to make it, or when it's going to happen, but I know it will. Sadly, it doesn't look like it's going to be from EA or
anything they release.


Griping is a good thing, even from the people who do it the most. It's nothing but an expression of frustration and desire for a game that lives up to the standards set by TPG. As far as I'm concerned; Everyone in this community, past, present or future should be upset about BF3. It is only because of my past experiences in this community that I know I can't settle for less. I know there is nothing Any of us can do and it is out of our control, but I sure as hell wont play a FPS, that doesn't allow me to talk to my team. Until then, I'll be waiting.

TeamSpeak...we will make it happen one way or another.
