Re: Regular(2nd) BC2 server?
Wile, you're not taking into account those that won't play HC but would play vanilla if it was offered. Also, as was pointed out before, most players on the HC server are passer byes. Due to a lack of consistent voice comms, there's nothing about TPG's server that distiguishes it from others. Hence the resaon most players are passer byes.

No really, I am. The number of people who flat refuse to play HC is less than the number who would play vanilla over HC if we offered both. I would argue that anyone flat refusing to play HC hasn't given it a fair shake, and by that I mean more than a round or two. I'll be honest, I was skeptical at first, and didn't care for it. After playing it with our TS solution, and getting used to the differences, prefer it over vanilla. BC2 is a flawed game, either mode. Hardcore just sucks less than Vanilla in my opinion.
We've got a pretty decent number of names who consistently join our server. Sure, we have the drive-by players, but by and large, we've got a solid foundation of folks who consistently join our server on a nightly basis. I really doubt those players would come to our server if we were running vanilla.
What it comes down to is raw numbers. We don't have the total userbase to justify two 32-player BC2 servers. The only games that have successfully fielded multiple servers are games that are stuffed full nightly with reservists. The second servers were created because paying reservists could not connect. Sure they've progressed to differing modes, but the overall user base is there. We tried 2 servers with BF2 and 2142 and it failed miserably. Multiple servers got us nowhere with BC2 in the first place, why would that change?Last edited by WileECyte; 03-07-11 at 08:46 AM.

I would prefer an regular server. Also I think limiting the new server to 24 people would be wise to help reduce the potiential for any server lag.
Its seems with BFBC2 server 32 person types they tend to suffer from some lag in general."And the hits just keep on coming." - Tom Cruise, A Few Good Men

32-person servers haven't had the lag problem since the last server-side patch. The lag we've experienced at TPG of late is due to Hypernia having issues as a whole. When BC2 is lagging, so is BF2. We're currently looking into that issue. Most of the 'lag' people experience on 32-player servers is on their own end, whether it be their ISP, their route to the server, or their PC itself.

I thought that it was already established that if there were to be a 2nd server it would be full vanilla (at the minimum FF=off, full health and since everyone likes the minimap...etc) in order for it not to show up as HC under the serverbrowser. Are you trying to say that the configuration of the 2nd server would be up for discussion?

Re: Regular(2nd) BC2 server?
If I am not mistaken - it will be full vanilla. As, Dice in the infinite wisdom, changing the other settings (especially FF) changes the way the server browser reports the server.
i.e. FF=ON (even though everything else is "vanilla") will list the server in the browser as HC (thereby defeating the purpose of standing up a "vanilla" server.
