    This is correct you don't have to have origin running to play the games. They do have a friends system. But I don't know anything about it.

    I tried to buy BF2142 a few years ago from EA online (or whatever it's/was called.)
    Didn't work for me at all. Had to find it locally.

    I have used steam for years and have never had an issue with them. I am glad they will have competition, as that is good for me, the consumer. But I won't begin a new system of passwords and usernames just to buy EA games. I don't buy that many EA games anyway.

    I'll just buy the hard disk if I need an EA game.

    by the way, I think its safe to say the claim from the original article can be refuted. BF3 is being sold for pre-order at GG and D2D. Granted that probably means nothing around here (since I get the vibe most would rather drive to a store, even it if was an hour away, then dare have to spend the 2-5 minutes to buy from another Digital download company)
