That is precisely EA's intent. It also gives them an industry-centric leg up on Activision by being able to claim an exclusive PC-based CDN that Activision does not have (except for Blizzard's assets). Remember, the PR channel is mostly split between consumers and investors, and in some cases, it is strategically ok to piss off a few customers in order to get more investors (since it takes less time for customers that have ragequit to be replaced by new ones as compared to investors).
