Thread: Bf2 launch issues

For some reason battlefield 2 just stopped launching. The screen will go black for a second and appear as though it's starting up, then nothing; back to desktop like nothing happened. It used to work and all of a sudden it just stopped working. Same with pr. I tried a fresh install of both (bf2.though steam) and that didn't fix anything.

Anybody have or hear of this issue before?

Only happened to me once when I installed the patches in the wrong order.

installing sequence > BF2 > special forces > 1.41 patch > 1.5 patch.

Could be a corrupt .net framework 2.0,Direct X9.0c,graphic card driver > try reinstalling them.

try this if above fails > start > my documents > battlefield 2 > profiles > 0001 > right click Video con file > open with note pad > VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@70Hz > file>save>exit. Or use the correct one from below. If BF2 works then re-adjust your resolution ingame.

VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@70Hz <<thats 4:3 aspect ratio monitor
VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x720@60Hz <<16:9
VideoSettings.setResolution 1440x900@60Hz <<16:10

If all above fails reinstall BF2. If that fails format & reinstall windows > BF2.

d'oh! I always forget to do this and that usually fixes everything. I'll try this before I try tampering with anything else for the moment...

O, I remember having this problem...I fixed it, let me remember it... Hold on....

Are you running it on a PC or laptop?

Aaaaaa, think I remembered it now. Make sure you refresh rate is not below 60Hz; set it to 60hz. Also, if you are running any "Refresh Force" utilities (sometimes GPU drivers come with them) turn it off or reset it. BF2/PR always starts up in 800x600 60Hz. Then when you log on it changes the screen spec's to your profile set up. I bet you that's what your problem is. BF2 try's to load up the game but sees it doesn't meet requirements and crashes (even though you do meet the requirements). Let us know...

ooh thanks H7! I'll try this. that makes sense why it would crash. I'll let you know if it fixes it

SO i tried all of those res changes and reinstalled and it didn't fix the issue...

I'll do some more forum surfing
