Hope for BF3 on Steam
According to an anonymous report BF3Blog received from inside Valve, the developer/publisher is currently in late-stage talks with EA in bringing Battlefield 3 to the Steam digital distribution service. The rumor says that Battlefield 3 would be available on Steam just in time for the game’s release on October 25.

At this point, I don't see why everyone is so hopeful about a Steam release. It buys you the ability to pay for the game via Steam, but you'll still have to install Origin (DRM) and you'll still need to use Battlelog for a server browser as it's the only option in the game. So what does it really buy you other than paying Valve instead of EA directly? EA still gets their money, just like anywhere else.

That's why when you aren't willing to trust a vendor you come up with alternative payment methods. I have a rechargable Visa card that I use for situations just like this. I will add money to it before I use it... In the case of buying BF3 (at a discount) on Origin... I transferred $50 to the card and made the transaction. Works like a charm. I typically use it for all my online purchases.
