Commo-rose in on 1st day patch

It's a holdover from BC2 where if a grenade lands at your feet you're gonna say it. This also compensates slightly for the loss of VOIP. I think it's some what ok, because you can flush campers out with it, since they'll start yelling and expose themselves.

Some of the reviews out today mention the command (aka commo) rose. Among them, is Gamespy's (GameSpy: Battlefield 3 PC Review - Page 1):

The lack of any in-game VOIP makes team co-ordination impossible unless you're playing with a bunch of psychics, while the command rose is next to useless. Where's the bail-out button, and why can't people see me flashing on the map or hear me over the radio when I use it?

...the Commo Rose is back, allowing for easier, microphone-free communication (though DICE strangely removed some of the rose's most useful messages).

Well written review. The cons are pretty glaring (voip comma rose) even for the gamespy reviewer.

EnterBF3 has some screenshots (Comma-Rose Screenshots - News - Battlefield 3/BF3) of the commo-rose that made it in. It's very preliminary looking -- it looks, frankly, like what I would call a first draft. As mentioned in the review I posted earlier, it's missing a number of buttons. Here's what it has:

Go, Go, Go
Follow Me
Negative
sorry
Affirmative
Need Backup
Thank You
Need Pickup

I'm guessing that things like "Medic" and "Ammo" are missing because they didn't have time to figure out how to make it pop-up on the minimap or as a diamond above the solider requesting support or a medic. Says one DICE staffer (@Thylander) on twitter according to the link:

We are working on making the commo rose better. Orders and requests etc. No date though

So basically the commo rose is useless at this point -- I'm betting that "Need Pickup" and "Need backup" won't do anything to show the location of the player that needs pickup/backup.

That's still "Q" as far as I know

Yes, it is still Q. At the moment, you can not rebind it. I normally have my reload set to Q. Now, I reload and spot at the same time while my CommRose is set to E.
