Re: Some squad leaders need this bitch slapping
I'm pretty sure I was commander for one of the incidents GMG is talking about. It was on Dragon Valley (couple nights ago), and his squad capped Refinery. I immediately called to all squads for all players to spawn at Refinery.
... and no one did.
One squad leader acknowledged my command - a vet with a 3-man squad - but none of them died before PLA re-capped Refinery. There may have been the odd dead USMC who re-spawned on Refinery, but no squad leaders did; and I know that at least one of them had the chance.
After PLA re-capped it, GMG was giving me a huge earful - and I can't find fault with him being upset. His squad pulled off a sweet cap and it was squandered.
This is not an isolated incident. It happened again with me commanding USMC on Karkand (again, this happened a couple days ago). FoxEye's squad capped Factory early in the round and despite my immediate commands NO ONE would spawn there. In this case we're talking about 3 squad leaders who are regs and should know better. There was plenty of time. MEC eventually re-capped it; and later in the round FoxEye's squad capped Factory again. We won - but it was a very close round and it SHOULD have been a lopsided win.
I'm not a great commander. On a good day, I think I'm competent. I've been trying to do it more, and trying to get better at it.
My style has been to leave initiative with the squad leaders. There are good leaders here on TPG, and most of the time I command there are at least two SLs who know the game better than I do. I give an overview of the battlefield via VOIP, I blind-spot in areas where one of our squads is moving, I respond to asset and intel requests, try to let the pilots know where they're needed, etc.
But on the occasions when I give a squad a direct order, I expect them to follow it or give me a good reason why they can't.
[this is the spot where I use bold all-caps text to scream obscenities at those of you who have intercourse with your mothers; urging you to play more closely to the spirit of TPG]
It may be that we have a few "pc players that feel bad about capping the other team out" (if so then they need to get over it), but there's more going on than that. Many of these incidents happen early in the round.
Over the past few weeks I've noticed that the incidence of regs who simply fail to follow orders have, from my perspective, grown. It used to be that when I gave an order, it was almost always followed - and in the cases where it wasn't I was confident that events on-the-ground had given the leader good reason to do something else.
But now it's happening more often, and I no longer have that confidence. I think this is complete bullshit, and I have a mental list of those who have disregarded orders that I know to have been tactically and strategically sound:
1) ******** : on Dalian, as USMC, we were getting creamed by their second attack chopper. We capped Main, and I gave you an order to defend it. You acknowledged it, but then went elsewhere. I gave you the order again, you didn't acknowledge it, and went wherever the hell you pleased. Fuck You. Defence isn't glamourous, but it was critical that we keep their second chopper away from them. It certainly wouldn't have been boring, there was plenty of action at Main. Main has really good shelter from arty and air strikes. It's not that hard to defend, and you can at least make them pay big in tickets to get it back. They took it, virtually unopposed, and we lost big. Fuck You.
2) ******* : On Karkand, we capped Factory and I sent squad orders and VOIP requests that EVERYONE needed to spawn factory. You and your 6-man squad continued to push on Suburbs, for what reason I can not imagine. I don't know how many tickets you pissed away, and in the end you didn't even get it. In the mean time, we lost Factory. Fuck You. Other squads also didn't follow orders, ******** also deserves blame. But, again, Fuck You.
3) ********* : On Karkand, I gave you a specific order to take a flag, and you decided to take Train. I saw you driving for it, and over VOIP I told you to NOT take train, to take the flag I directed you to. You began to argue with me, still driving for train. You asked me to give you a good reason why you shouldn't take it. I'm not going to have a goddamned DEBATE over strategy in the middle of playing a map. So you did what you wanted, and our team lost by hemorrhaging tickets in one arty strike after another on Train. Fuck You.
4) ******
5) **********
6) *********
.... yeah, I'm not going to type it all out, but Fuck You too. Some of you are nice guys, and are pleasant to play with. But I want to win.
I'm done. I'm trying to get better at commanding, but there's no point to it if squad leads habitually fail to follow orders. Half my command time lately is just me taking the chair because no one else will step up. I don't micro-manage the squads. If the battle is flowing well, and squad leads are taking the initiative, I can go the whole round without issuing a single order. But "Defend Factory" isn't capricious. It keeps all of MECs armour and major assets down; and if you can't be bothered to follow THAT order, then Fuck You. From now on, I'm calling on Admins to kick your ass off the server.
Cheers,
AetheLove

Re: Some squad leaders need this bitch slapping
+2
I have been commander a few time on Dragon Valley (US) side. I will be begging for someone to defend docks but everyone leaves it. Then I order a squad to go back they acknowlege but never go. I then spot out the enemy heading that direction and order a squad and/or aircraft back to docks but nothing. 1 min later MEC takes and there go the asset. Now those same squad leaders want a UAV or artillery strike and I am unable to assit.

Re: Some squad leaders need this bitch slapping
I have had this happen to me ealier this week we took over factory and then I took over the commander seat. The guys in the attack chopper wanted to hang out at docks when I told them to leave that location and help at facory till we got the surrounding flags, the dumb shit didnt. I had asked for admin assistance in chat and I got it. I think if a SL has a soldier that does not follow orders he should remove him form his squad, if the SL refuses to remove him ask for admin assistance to have the SL removed from the game.
If you have a dream about killing me you better wake up and call me to aplogize.
