yes - it did it every time - never actually got BF3 installed
I've rebooted again with all "everything" disabled and it is running currently (downloading the patch I guess). But it remains to be seen whether that will last once I boot normally again......
Could there be some "overlay" issue with something that might be killing it?

So - running things with nothing that might have an overlay or shell extension. Got the game installed. Played through the first mission of the campaign. Cut Scene for the second mission ends and I get dropped to desktop - but BF3 is still running. It's not Not Responding. Just can't get back to the game from desktop.
End Task - try it again. Same issue.
