    Grouping Up

Recently there has been talk in TS about the size of the group that we play with in an immediate area. How many players make a group to big or to cumbersome to be effective and safe? This is not talking about scheduled raids on an area such as the ones Rob organizes but rather the pick up games that we have nightly. This game is best played with others in my opinion but how many?

As an example, last night there was a group that started out as 3 people running around the NW and over time one person was picked up in Vybor, one in Kobanino, then 2 in Stary putting the group at 7 players. This was beneficial for covering the approaches in Stary and sharing supplies making sure everyone was stocked up and had what they needed. We then redirected to Green Mountain to pick up a player bringing the group to 8. We were able to outfit this person with a primary and other essentials before moving on. Then the objective was set to the Coast to pick up another player but half way there another player joined who was back to the North. The group split in two sending 3 north and 5 south. We switched to our own channels and moved on. After a while we reconvened in Stary picking up another player or two.

So with 10 people in Stary on comms we proceeded to loot the tents, the store, the crashed chopper just on the edge of town and maintain overwatch the entire time. The server pop was pretty low and the only non-group player we saw was at the very beginning when we all met back up in town but he disconnected and we were only left with Zombies to deal with.

The above worked well and I myself enjoy a mix of small group and large group. If you need to move quickly thru a town or to loot an area I prefer a smaller group as it is easier to know exactly where your group is at reducing hesitated shots because you don't know if the guy running towards you is on your team or not it also keeps the group moving. It is easier to keep track of 3-4 peoples needs and fulfill them than 8 or 9 or 10. The large group approach I like however if we are hunting other players (as long as it is organized), scanning an area for choppers or vehicles, or raiding a town or area that we will occupy for a while.

To me it is a decision based on the current or expected situation, what is the team going to do and does a larger or smaller group make more sense. What are your thoughts on group size? Does it matter, and if it does when and how do you make the smaller groups?

    Re: Grouping Up

I thought we did it pretty darn well last night. Thanks for the primary!

I am still very new to the game (2 days) and I felt much safer in those large numbers. We do need to figure out a system though so that if we are in a large group we can better organize and avoid either being killed by not pulling the trigger or killing our team mates. I was thinking last night that maybe we have a rule before entering any city that if someone calls out "All Stop" that we all stop moving. Spotted target still moving is now considered hostile.

It is very hard to keep up with who is who but I would expect that over time we will get better at that.

This is one of the most intense games that I have ever played. Certainly on par with half life and its amazing story line. Played correctly this game is exactly what TPG is all about.

I should be on some this afternoon if someone else is planning to be on. I really do not like being alone lol. It is scary out there. I am currently located at the airfield........ I hope........

    Re: Grouping Up

For the day to day log on and raid of a town or smaller airfield i like 4-5. Even for NW airfield if its a select more tactical group. For Towns like Elektro or Cherno, the big group would be a plus i think, but i have not tried this yet. Im looking forward to locking down a City as a group.

4-5 seems to be the magic number for being able to handle mostly anything and not be held back by the size of the group. Large groups can be fun and are great for getting new people in and meeting the regs. It usually only works well if the big group is gonna camp/farm a certain area for a while. If there's major trekking to be done than breaking into smaller groups seems like a good option.

Just to be frank, and I know we are all thinking it, its easier to have a bigger group when people are civil and get along. If people are arguing or there isn't at least some sort of general concensus, then the big group will suffer and people will die/leave angry. Sounds like everybody managed a good large group last night though. It can totally work, and with the regs we have it should work, but I think there's a time and a place.
