Re: Tpg Day Z server
Here is the link that I think Corpse is talking about that is a FAQ. DayZ - Knowledgebase
Hub, GameServers has it available but for a public server they want $3.75 a slot.

Re: Tpg Day Z server
Here's the thread from before about it, I think it brings up good points, and it was never about the dayz people having direct control, at least from what I've read in that thread. It was more about us not having all the tools and stuff we needed like reserve slots, ability to kick and ban for what we want and the like.

Eh, in theory yes.. or I would think so.
The hypernia box is a beast (8 physical cores, 16 virtual cores running at 2.4GHz with 12GB of RAM).
However,
- CS:S Main
- CS:S No AWP
- TF2
- DoD:S
- L4D 1
- L4D 2
- L4D2 1
- L4D2 2
- L4D2 3
- L4D2 4
- Procon BF3
- TeamSpeak
These are just the instances that are currently running. You still have match servers that get turned on as well.
From what I remember with ArmA, its a resource hog. Can the beast handle it? Possibly. Another problem is the assigned IP and Port ranges on the beast.... We are almost maxed out, or we already are.

Re: Tpg Day Z server
First of all, a DayZ server requires Windows. RDP may be requested to audit your server or assist with install but these details will not be stored. Linux is not supported. If using a server provider ensure that the DayZ server mod (a dll) can be installed on it.
Where suspicion of server admin hacking or alteration exists, RDP will be requested by DayZ staff to investigate. RDP details will not be recorded and you are recommended to change passwords after this is done. Refusal to provide temporary RDP in this situation could result in your server being blacklisted.
Second, your server needs to be able to handle Terra-bytes of bandwidth monthly. Some servers are chewing through well over 2TB of bandwidth a month. So be mindful of that.
Thirdly, the specifications. Below is a rough list of requirements to have a comfortable 50 player server.* Quad Core CPU @ 3Ghz+ (CPU is the main enforcer in a ArmA server, so the more powerful the better)
* 2GB+ Ram (Ram isn't a big issue in an ArmA server, so don't be overly concerned with having copious amounts [16GB+] of it as it won't be required)
* 50GB+ HDD (Preferably SATA3 or SSD) (ArmA 2 CO and the DayZ Mod take up approx. 20GB)
Sorry to play devil's advocate, because I would LOVE to have our own server as well. I would just say those would be our two main hurdles we would have to look at before being serious about this. From the looks of it, we are able to have admins to kick hackers and whatnot, so its more just setup/config limitations that we would have to look at.
