Server Switching -- Dumb Question
Hello,
A few days ago I died in a DayZ server but I forgot the name of it. I though I'd try playing with some of the TPG community so went on teamspeak and asked which server they were playing on. Unfortunately my push to talk key wasn't working for some reason so I couldn't say anything else and I heard the other players calling me a "ghoster" and "troll."
So there are two reasons for this thread. First, if you remember me, "jonaslum," I am not a troll or anything my push key just got messed up (it's fixed now). But, my second question is -- since I'm relatively new to the game so forgive me if this is a dumb question -- is server switching "illegal" (in-game)? I assume me asking what server people are playing on implies I am joining a different server and is that not allowed? Because I want to make sure I'm not breaking any rules....
Thanks and I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question...

Re: Server Switching -- Dumb Question
Jonaslum,
First off, welcome to the forums and it is good to see you post up here. I was one of the players in the channel when you hopped on and asked what server we were playing on. With a game such as DayZ we are cautious of new players as we have had others hop in channel with us and just listen in to find out where we are playing and what area/s of the map we are in. This has happened more than once with a few occasions where these type of players end up ghosting our position and wiping everyone out.
Regarding this evening when you joined, we saw you pop in channel and ask what server we were on and did not think anything of it until you weren't responding. A group of us were up in the NW airfield which everyone knows is a hot spot so when you did not respond to the "who are you" "who knows jonas" questions we became leery and moved channels and servers. Please don't take it personally as people are a bit gun shy when a new name appears in channel and are not communicating.
As for your server switching question there are no rules against playing on multiple servers. We sometimes play on multiple servers each night for various reasons such as meeting up with fellow TPG'rs, to avoid a hacker attack, or to play on a better performing server. I would love to play on single server night after night but in the games current state this doesn't usually happen. On the other side of the coin however there are rules/ guidelines against server hopping. There are players out there that switch servers to ghost players or loot the high yield parts of a map and that is frowned upon and seen as a glitch to the game mechanics aka cheating.
You are more than welcome to join up with us in TS and join on the servers we are on just make sure your comms are working. There are a bunch of us online and in game each night so again, please feel welcomed to join us in TS and chat it up with us. I understand that this game is not as fun when playing alone and I hope to see you in TS again so we can join up and play DayZ as we do here at TPG, as a team.SmokenScion liked this post

Re: Server Switching -- Dumb Question
Okay thank you for clearing everything up and I understand your (and the other players) cautiousness when I didn't respond and I hope I didn't cause too much confusion. I feel a lot better now knowing I could switch servers haha. Thanks for welcoming to this forum I look forward to playing with members of this community soon.
