I think....this game kicks ass.
So I've played Dayz Arma 2 a few times, maybe a total of 5 hours and I still don't get what's so great about it. To me, it seems so boring; takes 25 minutes just to find the group from that point you're just walking around trying to loot items. The games seems like 2 hours of calm boring game play and 2 minutes of actual action engaging other players.....
However I was just in TS and there was a very heated debate going on for a good 25 minutes about something that happened in game. I won't go into detail about what was said but listening to 6 people arguing about strategy and the events that unfolded during their play made me realize something.
This game must be very good to have people getting so worked up about it. With that said, because of this I'm going to give it another try tomorrow.

Re: I think....this game kicks ass.
I put about 16 hours into the game and then after a spree with as50 sniper that lasted about an hour (i ran out of ammo :< ), i asked myself wtf i was doing. Some people might feel like the experience was rewarding but in the end, for me, the time spent was waaay more costly than the meager reward of a little action (well spurts, kill a player / group, run from zombies-> relocate, kill the avengers -> run from zombies -> relocate -> kill onlookers -> etc).
Theres just not enough action to maintain my attention and again, for me, feels a lot like eve (spending hours leading / following roaming parties, only to never see anyone, or have players with end game gear too paranoid about loosing their gear to risk doing anything).
The game is built upon a single game mechanic, scavenging; equivalent of say... Skyrim with only the alchemy mechanic. No quests, no friendly npcs, no loading from saves, just hunting for ingredients for the purpose of making potions to kill (or more effectively kill) the mobs guarding the ingredients, so you can get more ingredients to make more potions to... yes get more ingredients... or... pk the occasional player or dye doing so and lose everything. In all you can: avoid people, scavenge, pk, or any combination of the three. They could do so, so much with the game, but the dev seems satisfied with the single game mechanic and imo it really shows.
Furthermore, for me, the player population density over the map is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too low. The map would be fucking epic if the servers could handle 200 or so players (hah), but 50 players for 225km^2 is ridiculous... thats nearly 3 miles^2 for every player (server cap was 50 players right?).
I never understood the appeal of realistic simulators. Life's boring, this is why we have entertainment, to get away from the boring, not immerse ourselves directly into it. I could spend hours and hours and hours cautiously transversing the terrain watching for possible hostiles, (just like you would in fuck... my first time saying it... -real life-)but really... seriously.... in real life you'd have a goal that would warrant the tedious, monotony but this, is a game, supposed to be for entertainment.
Again though, this is all just my OPINION and personal taste in games. Dayz is not for everyone with clear extremes (people either hate it or love it).
/rant... ya, i've been holding that one in for a while now...Last edited by Bunni; 08-11-12 at 04:49 AM.

Yeah i did read his post , and i was trying to be sarcastic in a way. Maybe i should refrase my answer: I have not touched BF3(it is still garbage ,but that is just imho) for the past 1.5 month. Because i was playing this "mod".
I just find this game more rewarding and i have a beter gaming expirience than BF3 could ever give me.
But that is just my opinion, same as assholes everybody has one!
