My first attempt...
Get in - join sever Thebe - join NC - pick face
zone in - remap keys, as I use Arrows not WASD - Learn to move around a bit
Constantly hear firing, eventually figure out its newbs like me learning to walk etc.
Switch class to Engi at the console
Toss out ammo pack and collect some free exp refilling the ammo for them. ( saw someone else mention only getting exp from ammo for squads. I saw "Squad ammo +15" and "ammo +10" for non squad members so apparently that has been fixed)
Send out Friend invites. Joined a squad. Took me 5 min to figure out they were on another continent. Was super confusing because half of them were NOT and I could see them out fighting on my map. SL finally mentioned this and eventually got 7 of us in same place.
Fought in an area for a bit Got some kills, Died several times. I give the SL credit for trying to herd cats. People were actually listening. My advice is when you play, Name your Squad "Voice Team Play" or something. There were many newbs TRYING to work as a team. They were looking for people to play with TPG style.
Tried jumping in a tank as a gunner and Crashed to desktop.
Got back in. Saw a few friend invites accepted. Found NO FRICKEN WAY to join up with someone other than Starting a squad and inviting them. Assumed they were in a squad already. Not sure how to get with folks.
Brings me to my next point. Spawning in sucks. I always had a list of places to spawn but they were never very far away from where I already was. SL wasn't an option. Points out near fights wasn't an option unless I died there already. Once I got there THEN I could start respawing there.
Tried doing the Instant action spawn on my SL but that did Nothing. Just left me on my spawn screen confused.
Bought a couple Certs three armor/shields for 1 point each (then found out there were mutually exclusive) and repair gun for ZERO.
Finally found an empty turret and tried getting in.
Crashed to desktop again.
Very interesting and looks like a blast but HIGH learning curve.

Hang in there they've made good progress just since I started playing. Try the file validating tool on the launcher page it helped me with the crashing. The game can be a bit daunting at first but it really does get easier. If an old bastard like me can do it you youngsters shouldn't have a problem.SovietDooM liked this post

Okay alot to go over in that...

Not everone knows what they are talking about. If your getting responses from me on the game, it's likely not true.

Just ask. I don't join squads, unless it's with folks I know. One you are on the same land mass, you find your squad by looking at the global map, and looking for the green circles.

Yup, the game does not filter out folks who just want to do there own thing but also be in a squad. But you will find a good number of folks are looking to work together.

That's an issue on your end. Unless it's not. There are bugs that pop up, but the DEVs are on them like stink on a monkey. Hold that problem were the tank turrets move all over the place in the kill cam. That's been going on from the first day I joined.

Yea that's BS, only way around that is to send a message. And not everone sees them. Thats why I started the "priming/going in thread" that or folks need to get on TS.

Spawning is alot like PR mixed with BF. If you have a point, you can spawn on it. If its to far from where the action is going down, bring a sunderer. There are so many spawn point in one land mass it would take you forever to find where you wanted to be if they didnt limit the list.

Go the the list on the left of instant action of where the hot spots are, once that selects an area try double clicking the zone you want then hit instant action and DON'T LEAVE THE MAP until the countdown finishes.

I believe if its in the same drop down menu, it takes up the same slot. You can't have your bigger map with your silencer and laser sight in BF3, but you can have that here.

Its an MMO, there's a great deal to know if you want to be Option. But that doesn't have to hold you back from having fun. I may have not found out how to switch land masses until day 3. But my kills and XP were only on an up trend from day one.Dispatch the DooM

Re: My first attempt...
If you see me on, chances are I'm either not in a squad or I'm squading with Soviet and possibly Festus. I don't tend to join squads cause even the ones that advertise as using mics typically don't use them all that much. I'll invite you into a squad with me so I can teach you the basics.
Also, I made a thread in the PS2 forums stating that there should be a "Join Friends Squad" option, but no one replied to it, so I don't think many people think it's needed.Last edited by Option hunter; 11-05-12 at 09:48 PM.

Re: My first attempt...
I think outfits will help too.
I have never been in a clan on TPG but I would definitely join an outfit to make grouping better.
I saw the green circles on my map for squadmates. But was frustrated I couldn't spawn Green or anywhere near them. I get limiting the spawn options but I should be able to steer that limit somewhat by clicking on the map.

Re: My first attempt...
Our outfit has helped a lot with joining up and knowing who is on. Big list and you send them a message then all hop on TS.
Spawning is a little odd for those not used to games like Project Reality or Arma.
Sunderer cert to be able to deploy it as a spawn point is great and the squad leader spawn point is a good thing too if you can keep it hidden. I kinda hope they bring back the option of spawn points at galaxy dropships with some sort of unlock.
One of those games that is 100% better with a solid group.
