    Loot Respawn?

In most servers I've played on, loot in buildings despawns once you go 500m+ away from the building. On this server though, I've left the city 1km+ away, returned, just to find the same exact loot. I was told by some players to loot everything in the building, walk outside and drop it all. I did that but it's so tedious and I don't understand why this server doesn't cycle loot like the rest.

Why do I have to pick up tin cans and junk i dont want just to get decent gear to spawn....

    Re: Loot Respawn?

I know, I've read it. It was written months ago and I don't believe it is as relevant as it used to be. I believe that the newer patches increased the effect that the last few posters mentioned about 'alternating loot piles'. I'll go play on a public server and try to show my results in action...

Thanks. I'll try and show you what I mean tomorrow. It's way too late for me to do it tonight. The only thing I can see that your server has different from most is that your build is Beta 99153 and the others are Beta 100296. I even saw one that was Beta 100697.

    Re: Loot Respawn?

There's a flip side to that. When I have one, park my vehicle a ways a way. Have gone to it to unload loot and gone back to get the rest, only to find it gone (despawned). Likewise, if you get hit by zombies and need to run away and bandage (high pop times if you don't want to shoot), have also had all that cool loot despawn. Sometimes just outside the 200M range. THAT's annoying.

Also trade information with others in Teampseak. Looking for tires? Oh, there were some at location XYZ a few minutes ago.

Having said that, yes, cycling loot is a bit annoying. But have been doing it for a looong time.

Oddly enough, that was the behavior on this server just when it got going. Sometime wiithin the first week or two, it reverted back to what I'm used to; persistent loot.

Remember though; this is a private hive. DayZ is a Mod to Arma II/OA. Private hives are a Mod to a Mod; and there are 3 (soon 4?) private hive mods. Pwnozors (ours), Bliss, and Lite. So, what you replicate elsewhere might be possible here, or it might not.

I didn't think making a server private via whitelist and gear would effect loot.... Also, I've noticed on occassions zombies all around me will disappear as time changed on the server, ex. day turning to dusk, poof all zombies disappear and begin to respawn around me.

    Re: Loot Respawn?

It's not the whitelisting, but the private hive that can affect things. Don't know all the particulars of how/why, and some of it does depend on how the admins set it up. For instance, how long your body stays around varies tremendously. One place some of us played was about an hour. Another had a cleanup script running every 20 minutes, so it varied from ~ 20 to 40 minutes (had to have been dead for 20 mins). On our server, it's a lot longer.

As for transitions, DayZ (or Arma 2 most likely) is sometimes all or nothing. For example, sometimes when the moon rises, it's not a graduall increase of light, but akin to someone throwing a light switch.
