Aren't you a peach?

Anywho, found a town, but no Zombies were to be seen. Found a coyote pack and a czech pack, but I couldn't tell if anything was in them. I only saw what was in my own inventory.

If no zombies/loot are spawning try relogging. Its a glitch in this map but relogging fixes it.

Any pack you find on the ground is probably new pack. It'll be empty unless it happens to have come from another player. To open the pack, click on its image in your inventory screen, then hit the Open Pack button.
