Re: Is it time to make a map change?
Honestly love panthera but chernarus with all the stuff fixed is exciting. Problem with tav is its way too big, and the other maps are less popular. Chernarus has a great mix, and with the amount of vehicles we had before it was exciting and many people called it home. Panthera is very pvp weapons are easy to replace and I find myself running brazenly compared to chernarus. I would like to change my vote to chernarus with current settings, custom loot and mini events.
Maybe a c130?

Re: Is it time to make a map change?
For the record I voted on Taviana as the next map as I have only played on it for 30 minutes or so and would like to explore a new environment. However, the points folks are putting on the table about a "refreshed" Chernarus have some credibility to them and I am becoming equally intrigued to see how this new rendition of the Chernarus compares to what we were running.
On another point, I am seeing a lot of "yes, change the map" but only one or two suggestions on the rotation question. Are the yes votes for the map change just because they want to move off of Panthera or are they a yes for a regular rotation?

Re: Is it time to make a map change?
Completely agree. And the action was more real; not folks camping the same spots. Looking for action, yes. But not always finding it where ecpected.
Gotta be honest, I just don' t understand what the hell is wrong with Panthera.
But heh, it is what it is. The numbers don't lie.Last edited by dreaddman; 03-20-13 at 06:34 AM.

Re: Is it time to make a map change?
I think a regular change up between the three top maps would be beneficial. A regular rotation before SA will, in my opinion, allow us to continue to appeal to new players.
I said 6 weeks earlier because 4 weeks just seems too short of a time frame, but 2 months seems too long.

Re: Is it time to make a map change?
I can think of three things that i have personally experienced.
Glitched doors. The ones in the military huts and some apartments. They have injured or killed me in the past.
The Zeds are from 2 DayZ patches ago, the see you a half a mile away kind. Lump this in with lax support i guess.
The loot spawning is inconsistent at best. We shouldn't have to log out and back in every time we travel to a new area, or after we just log in near a lootable area.
Then there are the glitches that some others have experienced, like man eating rocks. I;ve run into those on Chernarus myself, but i hear more stories about them on Panthera. Theres the ponds with steep slopes... but the water is glitched, so instead of just floating as you walk in, you slide 20m to the bottom and die. ( I know you experienced that one Dreadd! )
Im not trying to be a buzz kill as i really enjoy Panthera. But i call it like i see it, and its a glitchy out of date map. Even if i think the terrain, layout and loot is almost perfect.

Re: Is it time to make a map change?
I'd like to think I'm speaking on behalf of most of GDV here. Addressing the lingoring (haha, get it? Nevermind...) server pops, from our point of view, we usually don't tend to get on if no one else is on the server, and I'd venture to say that most other people play this way. We'll log in to the server lobby, and if no one is there, we won't play that night. So basically, our main criteria for playing isn't whether we like the map or not -- we'll play regardless -- its whether or not there are enough people on to warrant a few hours of playing. We live and play for shootouts and clan battles.
That being said, if changing the map is what you need to do to keep populations up, then by all means, go for it. A new map once in a while doesn't hurt anyone, and it keeps DayZ as a rewarding experience in my eyes. You can only loot cycle the same barracks so many times before you get burned out.
So, for us GDV guys, do whatever you need to do to keep the population up, even if it means changing the map. And like someone said earlier, you can keep an instance of Panthera idle while we try out a new map or something. However, the release of the Arma III alpha and the wasteland server are definitely going to direct traffic away from the DayZ server. Don't expect server pops to be near where they were previous to the releases, unfortunately.
That's GDV's 17 cents.
