He isn't leaving right now. Let's keep that in mind. He is leaving by the end of the year and he said if BI still needs some help he can consult them from a far. So there is still plenty of time for the game to benefit from his presence.

In case it was missed.......
I have the 7 Days to Die server up and running...
Just search Kanati in the server browser. Think the full name is Kanati's 7D2D Server.SmokenScion liked this post

Re: Rocket Leaving BI and DayZ. "I feel like DayZ is a fundamentally flawed concept"
Sounds more like a guy had an idea, idea went viral, he obligingly stayed with the idea. Sounds like his development with SA was an attempt to re-ignigite his interest in developing the game (by adding new, fresh things for him to work on, rather than old features). It's also what happened with minecraft. I get it, I've been there. You did something because it was interesting, whole bunch of people liked it, and started steering it in a direction that makes it no longer interesting for you...
That's the problem when you have a single lead developer behind a game, if they loose interest, the game seriously suffers. Could also be that BI was attempting to back-seat drive, wouldn't be a shocker there (for an investor to try and direct a project... kind of like all the alpha buyers, haha), might have been conflict and moving to a direction he didn't want. Though granted he should have negotiated such things ahead of time.
Yeah here you go, alluding to internal strife:
"The thing is, if I'm involved in the project, I'll be fighting anybody on the project to make sure it's good, so for the rest of the year, I'm there. And I don't just sit around; it doesn't matter if I'm the cleaner or the leader or whatever, I will be making sure--I will be in Marek's [Spanel, CEO] office yelling at him. I'm notorious for it."
Also sounds like he wasn't a good fit for leadership.
As for those getting pissed about paying for the alpha... That's what you did, you bought an alpha. You did not legally invest in the game. There was no binding contract obligating him to continue development. You payed $30 for an alpha, with promises of further development. Stop doing this, stop encouraging these developers to do this shit. You are making this crap a economically viable option for shady developers. There's some developers that can pull it off, but a HUGE majority take your money then fall apart, don't care, lazy, or worse are satisfied with the squabbles they collected from alpha or beta buyers and move on.
Stop encouraging this methodology. Let this be a lesson to at least have great caution when personally investing in a alpha or beta.
As for the future of SA, don't fret, if BI is the least bit competent, they will hire a new lead. Which there are PLENTY of viable candidates (look at all the DayZ spinoffs, lots of devs out there gunning for his position). Who knows, a new lead, might be exactly what the project needs.Last edited by Bunni; 02-26-14 at 03:05 PM.

I agree. I don't have many early access games, but the ones I have were either fully released (Arma III) or didn't cost that much (Verdun, and a few others.)
The thing is, is that Valve is also part of the problem. They are marketing these games right along side fully released games. That's not right.
Enough with the Early Access - Steam Users' Forums
As I said to Kracker, ToS or not..it use to be a crime to take money for something, and not give anything in return. If SA doesn't get released, I can see early access going bye-bye...and quick.

I admit I bought SA even though I was thoroughly against it. It's my own fault. The Fanboys promised it would be awesome, so I believed them. Last time i ever do that.
7 days to die is different. I watched videos on it for a while and contemplated buying it, 35$ was a bit steep, but then the Price went down. I love it so far. Don't regret a thing. It's not popular enough to get anyone riled up to the point of fanboyism.
