It is a HL1 mod. If you have that then you can play NS for free. I'm not sure if you can play it off of TFC, but a quick install will let you know.

Just be ready to get owned left and right for a while. Its a very difficult game for newcomers.

I've just recently heard about NS2. Too bad I didn't discover NS1 back in the day, since I got caught up in CS back then and that's when my addition started. I have Half-Life 1 sitting around here somewhere. I'm intrigued about NS2. It looks decent, but the graphics look a little dated. I know it's been in development for nearly 3 or 4 years and they are using a proprietary engine, but that also means the graphics aren't gonna be the best, or am I mistaken? How is this game any different than the newly release AVP? Is there some kind of horde or survival mode? Is this game better than AVP, I've only played the original AVP that came out in 1999.

If there is any question about it, according to Wikipedia (I know it's not super accurate) there were $200,000 in pre-sales for this game, so the demand must be decent, that's about 5,000 pre-orders if it's $40 a pop. I might get this, debating between this and several other titles.

The way you describe it, it kind of sounds like battlezone or battlezone II. If so I will be getting it no matter how the graphics look.

Oh hell yea, I can't believe it's finally going in to beta!

I absolutely loved the original NS, it started getting a little strange to me with all the updates, but I still love it. I will be pre-ordering this very soon.

on the marines side its kind of like battlefield where the commander drops supplies and gives objectives.
