Here are the main differences. The psp plays umds, the psp go doesn't. This means you don't have to mess around with discs all the time, however, you only have a base of 16 gb of storage. So you can download about 16 games give or take, at least until you delete some games. The price might also make a difference, the psp go is $250, the PSP is about $200 with a 2gb memory stick, movie, game and 10 song download tokens.

If you still have any questions post them here, I'll do my best to answer them.

In my oppinion, there is no real reason to buy anything other than the PSP unless Sony makes some significant changes to the system. I still enjoy my first gen PSP.

You can also buy a memory stick for the psp go although it is not the same one that the psp uses, it's a smaller one. Also, if you run out of space on the integrated memory on the pspgo you are able to store the games on your PC. Also, I haven't checked for myself but I think I heard that purchasing games digitally through the psn for the pspgo costs more than buying the umd at the store. I'm not sure if that is the case with the new releases as well or just for the older games that have been out for a while and received a price drop in stores but cost more if purchased digitally.

So I would say if your son doesn't already have a psp with umd's then the pspgo would be ok to get if the price isn't that big of a deal. Otherwise you're probably better off just sticking to the psp because there is no way to access your old umd's with a psp go. you would have to buy them.

I should mention that you can turn in an old psp umd for trade in value at gamestop. Makes buying the next game your kid wants easier.
