CS:GO pro tips and getting back in the saddle
CS skills are, IMO the most perishable of any game that I've played. CS is a hateful and unforgiving mistress and being just a little slow, a little off, or letting out just a little brain fart will get you killed and your team fucked (and not it a nice way).
As I mentioned in the "CSGO killed CS" thread, I've been getting back into competitive 5v5 play and both loving and hating it.
I love the teamwork and friendships, the challenge, and the thrill of how good it feels when things go "right" but, for me the road to rehab has been long and full of some really terrible play on my part.
Relearning all the physics, dusting off the twitch reflexes, and remembering all of the little nuances of game sense and strategy has been fun, but also painful as hell.
Recently though, I've come across a few good Youtube channels with some awesome pro matches (complete with commentary) and also some of the best "pro tip" videos I've seen.
I think that they're valuable to both washed-up old fucks like me who need some reminders as well as to learn what's new/different that the kids are doing these days and also to people who perhaps liked CSS but never played competitively.
here's more of a "how to" for setting up your x-hairs, but it was exactly what I was looking for (as I hate the default):

here's one on xhair discipline/placement, which is, frankly something that the vast majority sucks at:

all of the CurseCS vids I've seen though are very good.
ESEA also has some good skill videos and tutorials as well as full matches:

Hatton Games - High Quality PC Gaming Content! - YouTube
Hatton Games is another channel that has some decent content. Some the weapon guides are pretty remedial and just cover stuff that you could figure out in 5min on your own, but the info is well organized and he's got a bunch of videos on nade and smoke spots by map which is useful.
Also some good start breakdowns from matches.

Re: CS:GO pro tips and getting back in the saddle
I've noticed that one of the biggest problems that teams have and the single biggest contributor to match loses that should have been wins is losing rounds despite a number advantage. It seems that many people are pretty good at assaulting and being aggressive, but not so good at working together and taking advantage of a number advantage to either guard a planted or downed bomb.
I thought that this video did a really good job of illustrating exactly how to work a number advantage in a defensive situation. its basically strategic baiting, but the idea is that the guy being baited can hopefully call the contact and then duck back into cover as the rest of his team peaks and eliminates the threat that's attacking him. Even if the caller dies then the trade should still happen and the team maintains their advantage. So, either way you're leaving much less to chance then when everyone is constantly peeking and running around hoping to win 1v1 encounters / fighting the outnumber enemy 1 at a time.
