2012 TPG 5v5 Draft Tournament!
So a few of us have been talking lately, and think its about time for another tournament. So to spice things up a bit and make it interesting, the clever admins and I have decided that a 5v5 Draft Tournament would be an awesome idea. What is a Draft Tournament you ask? Simple, everyone who wants to participate will sign up(registration page will be separate and soon to come), a select few will be captains(volunteers or voted upon), and in order, the captains will pick teams via the players on the registration list. We are working on having the draft LIVE via podcast! This will be very simular to Fantasy Football, elemantary dodgeball, etc... incentives/prizes will be given, so stay tuned while this is in the works. This is just a heads up at the moment, so please chime in with your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, complaints, questions, etc.
Here is a basic layout thus far:
-What: A TPG Counter-Strike: Source 5v5 Double-Elimination Draft Tournament(Bracket Style)
-Who: Any TPG Regular with a forum account, A 30 post count min of legit posts. Spamming "lol" or "haha" 50 times will not count.(STRICTLY ENFORCED)
-When: Sign-Ups will close Saturday, Feb 25th, and the Draft will be held Sunday, Feb 26th. The first week of the tournament will start Saturday, March 3rd.
-Where: All matches will be played on TPG's Private servers. Spectators will be allowed, and voice commentary is in the works.
InfoThis is the basic template from the last tournament, slightly modified to fit this this tournament) Changes my be made!
-This event will be all weapons/equipment.
- AWPs will be limited 1 per team.
-This Tournament is just for fun, with a touch of competition on the side. So be courteous, we're all family.
-Tournament will be played Double-Elimination Bracket Style.
-A minimum of 5 players per team, not to exceed 8. 3 alternate players will allowed. Once again, still in the works, might make it a mandatory 8
-There will be one match a week per team. Each week will be a different map.
-Match weeks will start on Monday and end on Sunday. Times for matches will be scheduled by the each teams leader using CST. Rescheduling is always an option as long as its within the week time frame. If both teams cannot agree on a time they will both get a forfeit loss. Two forfeit losses and you are bumped from the tournament.
-I will make a thread in the CS:S Match Server forum for each match, which will be used for teams to communicate and schedule their matches. I will also make a thread for Server Usage, when teams agree on a time/date they should post. To prevent teams from scheduling at the same time, check the Server Usage thread to make sure someone hasn't already reserved their time slot.
-$800 startmoney like normal.
-15 rounds per side(30 total, first to 16 wins)
-Team spectator mode only.
-Substitutions may be made durring a match, the person leaving must fully disconnect from the server before the substitute may connect. If a team has 6 or more connected at one time, they will forfeit every round until only 5 are connected. Only players from their roster may participate in the match, otherwise they will be disqualified.
-Only 1 substitution may be made per half. Swapping players at Half-Time does not count towards a substitution.
-If a player disconnects durring a match, continue gameplay like normal until they reconnect or a substitute replaces them. No pauses or timeouts will be made.
-Teams are alloted a 5 min break at half.
-Ventrilo is allowed, if you do not have a server and would like one, let me know.
-I would like a few admins/mods to spectate to help "ref" and make sure everything goes smooth(admins let me know if you are willing to help.)
-A single person may only be on ONE team
-At the start of the tournament, matches will be randomized. Each match will have a Home and Away team. For each match/week to be played, 2 maps will be selected upon, 1 map will be played. The Home team can either pick which map to play, or choose which side to play first(T or CT). The Away team will get to pick whichever the Home team didn't. For ex. Week 1 may have de_dust2 and de_train. If the Home team picks which map to play, the Away team can choose which side to play first. If the Home team picks to play CT or T first, then the Away team gets to pick the map.
-All other TPG Rules apply.
Overtime:
-OT will be played immediately following the scheduled match, allowing a 10 min break. League OT rules will apply. Teams will remain on the same side they finished on, ot.cfg will be executed, $10k startmoney, best of 6 rounds, 3 rounds each side(swap after first 3). Replay the same League overtime rules until a victor is determined.
Match Demos:
All match demos will be uploaded HERE.

Looks good. I have some info on the match server and casting. From what I have been told the server is setup, and all TPG mods will have a web interface to upload cfgs, and administer the server. I have also been told that a Mumble server is in the works for use with the match server. As for the casting I am VERY confident that we can cast each match as long as they are not at some weird time like 10AM on Tuesday.

Re: 2012 TPG 5v5 Draft Tournament!
I got a few suggestion / question:
- Set the time zone in which the match must be schedule in. This will reduce the confusion of people saying I thought it was eastern when it was central. Also might be easier to read while looking thru the Server Usage.
- Since I saw that you enforce the # of play time that must be hit to play, would it make since to also have # of post the TPG account must have to make sure these are people who get involved in the community and also encourge people to join the forums.
- What do we do when one team is activily trying to schedule a match while the other team is semi-active and this cause a time not to be agreed on. Do we still punish the active team while it is the inactive team for not actually being active on talking with the other team?
- Might want to state the over-time rule also.
- Also what happens when the server is facing issues and a match cannot be played but there is no more time slot left to be played in the week time frame?

Re: 2012 TPG 5v5 Draft Tournament!
Central will be the default time zone.
I agree. A 50 post count min of legit posts. Spamming "lol" or "haha" 50 times will not count.
I will have a tread for each match, and if a team is not being active or not communicating well, it will be noticed. A default match time is still in the works, will most likely be thursday at 8pm cst.
This is just basically a rough draft of what the tournament will be like, all the technicaities will be posted in the official tournament thread. Over-time will most likely be the secondary map for the week, with a few less rounds.
A rematch will be scheduled, whenever possible, within reason.Last edited by idunn; 01-17-12 at 09:50 PM.

Re: 2012 TPG 5v5 Draft Tournament!
The problem with a static default time for everyone is there's the potential to have a lot of matches at that time, but not enough servers to accommodate, unless there's more than 1 match server. What you could do is assign a default match time for each match. If there's 8 matches (16 8 man teams) in a given week, match 1 would be Thursday at 8pm, with match 2 being right after at 9:30pm. Match 3 would be Friday at 8pm, match 4 at 9:30pm, and so on until Sunday. But, what you don't want is 2 teams forfeiting and messing up the bracket due to not being able to schedule and, since we're talking teams of individuals and not clans, it would probably happen sooner or later. Then, you have to start creating byes, and then you have a big mess. Of course, if you have more than 1 server, it becomes less of a problem.
Not really a suggestion for the tourney itself, but for the teams in it, would be to create a steam group with only the 8 members of your team, to post up match times, availability, and whatnot and it all be in the same place. It'd be a lot more efficient than PMs, at any rate.Mr_Blonde_OPS liked this post
