Re: Someone explain this game to me.
One other thing that the others haven't pointed out yet is that CS is a really old game and a lot of players have been playing for years and years. Like, about 5 to 10 years or so. In addition, many have competitive experience. So they know the maps and best strategies cold, and have had years to develop and hone their super important twitch shots.
P.S. You're undeniably a great player Thorsen; your skill in L4D2 is amazing.I broadcast gaming videos on Twitch TV and my finished videos are on YouTube! Recently I shoutcasted the Counter Strike Tournament at PAX Prime 2012!

Re: Someone explain this game to me.
If you ever killed me maybe I could spectate you and see what's wrong xD. Just kitten!
Just kidding. CSS is strange to get used to. What started helping me a lot when I started to get a little better than .7 kdr was shooting the AWP on other servers. Even though I never use the AWP (I hate it actually), it helped me get an idea of how the hitboxes worked, and that the slightest lag in any component of my computer severely changes how well I do. I go 26-4 one map and then the next map something is just off and I'll go 0-8 at first.
For me personally, I don't let the first 15 rounds of playtime affect the next couple. I adjust to whatever lag or weird hitboxes I may be experiencing and play much better after the first several rounds.
One thing I notice about you thorsen is that you know exactly where to be, you know how to play the spots, and you know how to peek, but you should choose better weapons. Honestly, I mean this in the most constructive manner possible, but I always see you with smg's, when to me, you seem like the type of player who should use the m4 or ak almost all the time. I almost never buy a gun (other than deagle) until I can afford an m4/ak, and I think I benefit from that.
Honestly, thorsen you have all the skill, I saw today you had the jump on me every time, I just got the pop on you first. I specifically remember on season when you were a CT at horseshoe, you popped out with your mp5, but it wasn't enough. If I would make a recommendation simply from that one scenario, I had no idea you were there. Play that advantage and wait until I pop around the corner, use your sound, and prefire just half a second at head level.

Re: Someone explain this game to me.
Thanks for the responses guys. I guess I tend to use SMG's more because I'm SO used to running and gunning, which may be my biggest problem. I'm gonna try to focus on standing still while I shoot. All the other games I've played had so much movement involved: TF2, L4D2, BF3, UT, Quake. All games where not moving = instant death. So I would say I probably make 80% of my shots on the run.
Also, there's CLEARLY a vast amount of skill present at TPG. I can do decent on pubs but I get destroyed on TPG all the time. I don't expect to be top fragging against TPG's super regs or anything, I just feel like I shouldn't be going 0-7 regularly either.

Re: Someone explain this game to me.
A few days ago you wouldn't leave me alone on mill, you just kept rushing down mid from CT spawn with that damn TMP and killing me with it haha. Anyways... I find that aiming is all in standing still, like some have pointed out. I've heard/seen people on the run and then come to an immediate stop and take a few shots that are dead on, for me I have to come tp a complete stop for about a whole second or so to get an accurate shot off, but thats just me. Paying attention to radar is very important so that you know where your team is and isn't. Volume/sound is obviously important but its all about how loud you have your volume at, play around with volume levels and then get used to one and try and only play at that level. For example my in-game volume is at about 75% and my windows volume is at around 80%, those numbers don't mean shit its just about what and how well you can hear what is going on around you. That will in turn lead to your situational awarness.
Now this may sound odd but I think there is another part to CSS that is bigger than just your ability to play the game but where your head is when you are playing it. In a word: Mentality. If your head isn't in the game then you probably won't be the MVP of the game. But thats just me.
