A call for change
This is a post I've debated since my returning to CS:S but honestly I feel like this has carried on too long. I feel like the overall attitude on CS:S just sucks and it really needs to change. I've seen it from both regulars and admins. Everyone is so quick to jump the gun and berate players and frankly, it's not right. I'm all for 'following the call', and I played football for eight years so I can take being yelled at when warranted. But the overall attitude on CS:S sucks and its discouraging to play for both newcomers and returning players. I understand that people don't always follow our play style and I also understand there are ass hats. What I don't understand is why we name call newcomers and slay on the first round of maps rarely played.
Lets remember we want TPG to grow and you don't grow by being bullies. There's a right way to do things and there's a wrong way. We want to help people grow as players and improve. We want to show people how games are meant to be played, not fault them and make them feel less. Remember that games are suppose to be fun and there is a way that you can help people improve without putting them down first.

Re: A call for change
If a person is told to follow the call, multiple times...and doesn't, that's their fault.

Re: A call for change
I'd agree Guyer as well as expect the same. But losing a round and being insulted or botched calls resulting in the berating of players isn't right to me. The overall attitude in CS:S sucks IMO and needs to re focused to help players improve, not criticize them.

OMFG STFU NOOB!
j/k
I've always hated the OMG I'M PRO attitude. "Do you know who I am?!" shit. That's why I tease the CAL-O Semi-Finalist shit like I'm serious (& some people do take that serious (??)).
I'll also admit, I'm not the best at being able to baby sit new players & hand hold them thru a round. There's almost a certain experience level (NOT SKILL, don't confuse them) that is required to be effective on the servers. I also find that new NEW players should start on CT to learn. It requires too much coordination on the T side to have to babysit.

Re: A call for change
While that may be, if you ever want to grow competition and create a better gaming experience you need to help people and not criticize them. Too many people want to tell people what they're doing wrong instead offering solutions. I don't need to be told how I can't aim and how I'm a douche bag for not flashing over long. Like I said, I believe in constructive criticism, but make it constructive.

I generally try being helpful/lenient if the person looks really new or just lost on a new map or something. I lose my patience when someone is told to do something(or warned to follow the call) a couple times and keeps not doing it. I've never had an issue explaining HOW to do something if somebody asks...but with as many newbies and asshats as we get here you can't hold everyones hand. I try to help the former and get rid of the latter...but if someone doesn't learn or doesn't understand but doesn't ask for help how are we supposed to know if they just don't get it or if they are being asshats and not following the call/being a purposeful detriment to the team for their own KDR's sake? I've even written guides on the site on how to beat the AWP on some maps, and I've got several 3-4 paragraph posts in the various "Tips for newbies" threads.
