It's the right sentence. The only problem is the inevitable rise in fighting that will happen between his supporters and the US, but he didn't deserve to live at all.

I agree. It would have been much simpler. The entire trial has been a sham. Saddam and his cronies don't recognize the legitimacy of it. With the exception of possible martyrdom, his elimination with a bullet in the head when captured would have been the best course of action.

It's true. Think of when his sons were killed. Instead of capturing them and holding them on trial for 3 years, they blew the fuck out of them in a building. Then you can just say "yeah, we found them, and killed them." Easier than the Saddam route.

It reminds me of some of Goring and Wilhelm Keitel at the Nuremberg Trials, who asked to be shot rather then hanged. Goring just killed himself, after they said no because he thought he was a "professional soldier" even tho he was a world war 1 flying ace.

But this is good that Saddam got what was coming for him. It wasnt hard to guess either. Well, no big loss.

There was a program on TV last week called "Saddams Reign of Terror", it showed what life was like in Iraq under Saddam. From the gas attacks on the Kurds to the violent suppression of the Shia uprising, there was a lot of videos of people being murdered and tortured. Political and military leaders would record the murders and torture to prove their loyalty to Saddam. People being thrown off buildings, beheaded, having gernades strapped to their bodies and detonated, all in the name of Saddam, it was quite disturbing.

Ordering the murder of hundreds of thousands of his own people I think he is getting what he deserves. I dont buy into the whole "we are sinking down to his level" in putting him to death. The Iraqis gave him a trial and he treated it as a joke. Just like the Nazis who demanded a military death by firing squad it is no suprise that Saddam wants the same, hanging to death helplessly for all to see has no dignity. May sound cold but I think that is the best way for the Iraqis to put Saddam's reign of terror in the past.

I dont think it will change the current ammount of violence in Iraq though.

Yea i saw this on CNN an hour before.. Some people are happy and are celebrating but some people are already demonstrating. But i agree they should have shot him when they found him. Would save a lot of troubles...

I doubt it will change much in Iraq, it's no longer a war for Saddam but rather a war against U.S and British troops. They should of shot him when they found him rather than wasting the money on a trial.

This situation was inevitable in my opinion, if he didn't get death for this they would have tried him for another atrocity.

Personally, I'd rather see him rot in jail for the rest of his life, but perhaps an undignified hanging of the bastard will provide the Iraqi's with a greater feeling of "justice" and closure.
