i've only heard them laughing once, it was when i was playing advanced with friends we where all on out last lives in really low health (because of a fire accident), and zoey just started laughing... the funny part was that the fire "accident" that nearly killed us all was her fault.

If you aim at nothing and press left analog it is mostly "look over here!"

If you aim at a survivor it is "Zoey/Francis/Bill/the other guy"

If you aim at equipment/weapons, the AI will pick it up/use it.

Yes, you can get AI's to pick up bombs/gas cans/weapons/pills etc..

will they use them though?

cause sometimes if a human that had a molotov/pipebomb leaves and an AI takes over, they never use their molotov/pipebomb.
