    Yup, done all of those things with no results, first things that came to me too.
    edit: I tried to shut down all programs including firewall and antivirus too, but that didn't have any effect either.

    Good suggestion, but didn't seem to work. I think it has something to do with the steam cloud thingy, since I never get past that inital steam cloud message without l4d crashing, and if it doesn't show steam has stopped responding.
