I haven't been on since the update went live, but...has anyone seen any improvements in finding a dedicated server? That was one thing that took forever. People never look in the upper left hand corner of the screen where it says "Host is searching..." instead, they just leave.
Also, is this patch for the 360 version too? If so I'm going to have to load up my 360 tonight for it.

While I'm pleased to see how they handled the Boomer exploit, I'm appalled that they locked the VS difficulty...
Normal?? Holy crap easy...for the Survivors that is. The somewhat controversial "Rush" tactic is hands down the easiest way to complete the level on normal, as the infected to negligible damage and as long as the group rushes together, it's fine from the special infected. Has anyone played normal lately? Land a great pounce on a lone survivor, and you'll be hacking at them for nearly a minute it seems before they die, which is more than enough time for all but the most retarded of survivor teams to assist them.
Granted, expert was the opposite side of the coin. No real rushing on expert, lest you be cornered by a mob, or unlucky enough to get tackled by bosses. The aforementioned pounce got deadly fast, and games can become frustrating for the Survivor group. Expert games can be hard enough to play with AI bosses, let alone humans.
What I'm disappointed in is the loss of Advanced mode, which was a fine medium between the two. Negated some of the most blatant rushes, made zombie damage worthwhile, but was not overwhelming for the survivor group to overcome. I hope they rethink this locked difficulty, as I hate needing 20-40 slashes as a hunter to kill a pounced guy, or the sheer lack of effectiveness of a boomer drawn horde on normal.
Am I the only one who feels like that?

You are not the only one that feels like that. I think Advanced offers a team with a bad or a new player (or short a player) on it a chance to overcome the deficit, while on Normal a really good play by an individual infected goes entirely unrewarded. Boomers don't mean much in normal versus against a team with people who voice chat or can at least type in h or s in text chat for help. In games where teams I've been on ambushed survivors early and ambushed them well, they took a whopping 10-30 damage because most damage comes from the common zombies. On Normal common zombies do a whopping 1 damage.
As a Boomer, when you see assisted x16 against a player, that's not bad, right? on expert they would be dead, 16 x 20 = d-e-a-d. But on normal? Wooboy you lost 16 health call the doctor. Same with a smoker, you love the commons racking up damage, but it takes a fricking hundred hits for a player to become incapacitated let alone how much it takes to kill someone.
Not to mention that with a pipe bomb a sole survivor can run half the level. Oh, did we mention that on normal health kits abound, so when your team of infected finally manage to make them use a health kit there's another one right there? And molotovs and pipes everywhere? I mean, when the zombies don't even do any real damage do the survivors really need all that crowd control?
While on Normal the infected can kill survivors, the odds are stacked in the survivors' favor. Lock it to Advanced imo. Right now on Normal, the better team not only wins, but they win by an exponential factor.

12-05-08, 07:55 PM #20Knickers are in a twist over Valve's decision to lock Left 4 Dead Versus difficulty at Normal. Responding to the storm, Erik Johnson had this to say:
The game was built to play against other people, not fight the horde and fight other real people. Its also nearly impossible for players to know what kind of experience they are going to be getting into.
The main issue was unscrupulous little sods changing the difficulty mid-match to cheat.
In other news, Erik revealed that Valve are hosting around 5,000 Quad Core PC L4D servers on their own dime.
