Problems....
Hey...I recently had to reinstall everything on my computer and am having trouble with CS:S. I thought someone might possibly have some idea on whats goin on....
I can play for hours when i create my own server with bots, but when i go to play on public servers it locks up in less than a minute. I've turned down hardware acceleration on sound, no improvement.
Any ideas?!?!?!?!

RE: Problems....
Make sure there are no other programs like a virus scan running in the background when you play. If that is not the issue, I would try removing it from and then re-adding HL2.exe to your allowed programs list for your firewall. If you are using a cable/DSL router, check the firmware version you have installed, then google the firmware version and compatibility with CSS. I don't remember the firmware version number, but one of them had issues with CSS a while back, like a year or so ago. If no luck, post again or feel free to shoot me a PM and I will work with you one on one to get it worked out over the phone if you want.

I've been having a lot of problems with CS too. The main thing is I get dced randomly or some errors at the start of a new map like:
"Netchannel : failed reading message svc_UpdateStringTable from ip."
I've looked at the support threads/topics and steam and the only thing I can think of that I haven't tried is the router's firmware. Now my router is old and I believe it is one of the ones that was having problems like Bueller said, but I think they stopped making support for it. Anyone know if there is anything to do to help fix that problem besides getting a newer router?
My router by the way is a LinkSys BEFSR81 Ver2 and the firmware is 2.45, but like I said I don't think they have any updated versions for this one.

Lego, here is a link to every stable version of firmware available for your model of router. Download and install the appropriate update and your issue should clear up.
