on Thursday, August 6, 2009, Steam will be offline for maintenance between 6:00 pm and 9:00pm Pacific Standard Time. During this time, certain Steam features will be offline as the work goes on including the Steam Community, matchmaking and lobbies, the Steam content servers, and the Steam store itself.

This means that between that time users will not be able to download and/or purchase any games, access their stats or any Community pages (personal pages, groups, chat rooms, etc.), or play games that require matchmaking, namely Left 4 Dead.

It's currently unclear what Valve will be doing, but we will pass on any further updates as they appear.

It appears that all of us CSS addicts will still be able to play. Just wont have Steam friends or anything else that comes with it.
