Re: To silence or not to silence?
Well if the headshot isn't going to kill them anyways... what's the point in not silencing it? Damage difference doesn't seem to make enough difference to me to give up the surprise/accuracy. If silencing/not silencing were the difference in not killing/killing with a headshot, well, that would be a different story.

Re: To silence or not to silence?
I have used M4A1 quite a bit both ways. At one time I preferred without -- but as time went on, especially in TTP servers, I use it most the time now.
Without a sound suppressor it does slightly more damage, and is more likely to double hit by passing through someone. I have noticed no difference in recoil or accuracy. I think this claim is purely a pschological factor of the user. I find both to have their advantages, and I think it depends on where and what you are doing.
Silenced: You dont give away your position with it. Gives you those vital extra shots in while the enemy is still trying to pin point you. You also reduce the immediate noise pollution so you can hear things like helmet plinks, footsteps, comm. No muzzle flash, so if the user stays still your only visual cue is ricochets.
Being on the other end of it, I am usually locating the enemy by the sound of the shells hitting the ground when I cannot see them firing it.
Unsilenced: Great at mowing down lines. (like entrace to B on dust 2). Loud -- which in itelf has its uses. Sometimes it is good to be the one drawing attention, if you have great cover, you may very well be bait for your other teammates. Or you may bait the enemy into a death trap.
Like the AK on CT side, it has the same confusion factor. Both teammates and enemies may mistake you for the wrong team because you are using a weapon thats only available to that team.
Without voting yet I will bet the winner is Supressor.. cause 95% of the time i pick up an M4 it has it on..

I prefer to go all silenced... USP and TMP/M4... it makes me feel like james bond with his Silenced Walther PP7... pp for PEW PEW'in those noobs in the face ...
In addition.. there is nothing more satisfying the picking the shit outta someone with 1 silenced shot from the m4... they dont know where it came from.... until they hit hte ground... and the only sign that they even died is that crunch of the helmet or skull as the bullet penetrates...
vtd... SILENCED ALL THE WAY BABY
