Hit boxes are always key because when you are shooting at someone, it's not where they are it's where they were..

i have also never had a problem with the hitboxes. I shoot where the person is. But the scout is just inaccurate unless you are crouched.

    Re: Registration

hitch, two things you can try if i understand them correctly:

    1. setting graphics lower (if they're high). lower graphic settings allow your comp to calc. and send/receive more frames/second, giving you a faster picture of your target. more frames = better time resolution = more accurate target location (you will still need to hit it).

    2. you could also try changing cl_interp to 0.01. basically, that moves the hitboxes closest to the target graphic by having target locations predicted to 1000th of a sec.

however, standard cl_interp values are supposed to be your latency divided by 100, so a 30 ping would equal an interp value of 0.03 (30 milliseconds), meaning your computers 30 millisecond latency to server is being compensated by interpolating targets 30 milliseconds ahead of the last calculated target location frame (hence, shooting behind what you see will often hit the target). larger interp values allow you to shoot further behind the target as your computer is interpolating further ahead to compensate for lag.

i set to 0.01 whenever the server allows it even with higher latencies.

    Re: Registration

i can't find the video that compared hitboxes from promod to css. All I can find is css only hitbox videos. But anyway, the hitboxes in source are fucked. When the server had 100 tic I personally felt better performance in this area. 100tic I guess had more cons than pros, the reason for going back to 66tic.

I will usually complain about reg when Im in game, I should really be complaining about the hitboxes. For the most part I want a game where I kill what Im actually pointing at. Promod, whenever they finally come out with the patch, should have fixed hitboxes.

    Re: Registration

    It's all in your heads....

You are playing a 6 year old game using a 6 year old engine.

The engine is not good at interpolating where people are or are moving too, especially given client latency. Therefore hit reg sucks.

There is little to nothing that TTP can do to improve it. All of the solutions like boosted FPS, 100 tic and other crazy configs changes are intended for 5v5 private match servers.

On a pub server with 22 players there is not much that is going to improve things.

    Re: Registration

Tick has very little to do with IMHO, playing both for years. Where I notice the biggest difference in registration or hitboxes is the difference of 8 people playing on the server vs. a full server. When the server has 8-10 people on it rarely do I miss a shot. When it gets full is when I have issues.

I think that is fairly normal though and may not have everything to do with your desktop but more likely just a function of the game engine itself.

all the more reason to lower interpolation as much as possible.

    Re: Registration

Hitch, btw that was just my angry-man post

I do keep my interp values really low so may be part of why I barely notice any issues with shot reg. It may also have to do with my average kill requiring about 3-4 hits anyways. (I tend to aim for the chest/neck and let recoil climb to the head, or enfilade from above and spray a line across the target).

To me all the tweaks in the world you can do with your computer/server help; but are no substitute to changing the way you play, setup, and aim to counter-act the game's shortcomings. If you start having issues with reg try aiming for the body more, even if for alittle while until things settle.
