Re: CS:S TPG Clan Tag: Should you be allowed to wear the TPG under the Clan Tag secti
I understand why the people who like the idea of sporting a tag think it is a good idea but you are failing to see the downsides of issuing them. These are my own views and not those of TPG.
TOP 10 Reasons Not to Allow Tags:
1) This is a community. Communities don't wear colors or throw-up signs...gangs do. Hence, no tags.
2) In a community people are free to come and go as they please. With tags you must be "jumped in" and can't leave for fear of never being allowed to return.
3) Having people work to be friendly team players that work together and enjoy chatting in the forums while helping others achieve the same is much more beneficial to the community than having people working towards earning the right to wear a tag.
4) All are accepted, tags promote violence much like in gangs. I don't like you because you are xyz and I'm abc. It's stupid but people look for reasons to fight. TPG doesn't want that.
5) People looking solely for a clan, TPG doesn't want them. They want people who want to be here to play team style gaming and to have fun. If they find a resident clan to hang with fine but that is an after thought not the focus.
6) The actions and words of a player with a tag speaks for the whole community. Look at any sports team and you will see that people do not distinguish between the individual and the team. They go hand in hand. It is a very scary path to travel down. Coaches always inform their players that their actions and words speak for the team as a whole. Just a few missteps by tag wearing TPGers could tarnish the work of hundreds of dedicated team players and hurt the reputation of this community.
7) Most people are followers and not all people like to wear tags. New players will follow the tags and will disregard information supplied by none tag wearing community members.
8) Remember high school and the "in" crowd...they were all losers. I was in the "in" crowd and can't tell you how many a**holes I hung out with just because I wanted to be cool. Thankfully I am older now and could careless about being in the "in" crowd anymore. Separating people is not what TPG wants to do, they want to bring team players together. Everyone is on equal footing in TPGs' servers. Anyone can make a call, anyone can call a player out.
9) A tag = admin to many new players.
10) There is an old adage, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Why change something that has been so successful that you want to sport a tag for? TPG is great, why mess with it.
I believe TPG is going at this the right way. Sure having a tag would spread the word out to a larger audience but quick and easy is not the TPG way. TPG is not taking a short cut to build a community and as such will enjoy the fruits of their labors in having the most dedicated, hardest working, friendliest people and places play. Here you are never "in" you are always trying to better yourself, your fellow player and the community. Having a tag is all about you, I have the tag and you don't. By not doing it the easy way, good players find TPG and the rest find the door. Slow and steady wins the race and TPG is definitely the best place to play.
Regards.

If having a tag is like being in a gang, then why even allow tags at all? Why not force everyone to change their name when they join the server? Why host resident clans here on the forums? According to this logic, aren't all these resident clans just gangs fighting for more turf in the form of regulars? You can't compare being tagged to being in a gang, and say how detrimental they are to the community, then select a few and say, oh these are the good gangs.
And what's the difference between having regulars be allowed to wear a tag and having them join a resident clan? Basically you're saying, no, you can't wear a tag, but here join one of the many clans that we host on the forum and support and wear one of their tags instead.
Also, everyone that has voted yes in the poll has voted that it should be optional...There'd really be no pressure to wear it if you didn't want to. It's just a way for individuals to show that they're proud to be a part of this community. As far as the tag as a representation of the community, you make a valid point. But one thing to consider is that the large majority of players who tag themselves are already going to be established members within the community. As mentioned above, the people wearing the tag are showing off their pride. They're already a part of this community, and like it or not, they're already representing it, even without the tag. And yes, actions speak louder than words. What's a better action than accepting the responsibility that would come with wearing a tag? These are people that are throwing their support out there for the world to see, and if anything, they'd more than likely be held to even higher standards than normal.
The only real problem I see with the idea is the issue of people associating the tag with an admin. For that alone, I'll admit that with the way this community is set up, the idea of a tag for regulars may not work. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, one of the reasons why I've seen this work in other servers is because the tag is something that ties in to the community, without really giving the idea that those wearing it have real power on the server. Unfortunately, I imagine that the majority of possible tags for here would be along the lines of TPG, TP, TEAM, etc. and of course those would certainly suggest having some sort of authority in the server. But really, this is the only real valid issue I see.Last edited by Sundance; 08-01-10 at 04:09 PM.

Re: CS:S TPG Clan Tag: Should you be allowed to wear the TPG under the Clan Tag secti
Clans can only have a number of admins, which limits the influence one clan has on a game server's developments. While there may be large clans like HRD or 5th column they are only really there to be representative teamplayers for the people who enjoy being part of a group. They can play with a clan and be teamplayers at the same time.
TPG is the place, the server, the law, the clans are the clubs, the organizations, the advertisers.

Re: CS:S TPG Clan Tag: Should you be allowed to wear the TPG under the Clan Tag secti
What is gained by allowing members to wear a TPG tag?
TPG isn't about wearing a tag. TPG is an ideal. A haven for players that are tired of being on teams that don't work together; without communication, without teamwork, without objectives being done. Show your TPG pride by your actions in-game (communication and teamwork). Spread the forum url around to new players, or your friends, or whoever you feel like telling.
And who gets to decide who wears the tag? Anyone who wants to? That just opens up the door for players to give TPG bad rep, and it doesn't matter if it's you, or a long-time reg, or some new player that just found TPG. Someone will do something stupid to garner bad rep, and that kind of stigma is instantly transferred to the player's tag. But if that player doesn't have a tag, then that association isn't immediately made. You would assume it's just a player speaking for himself, and not the views of a clan or community.
Do you know how many clan bans have been issued because of one stupid player? That's all it takes: one player. And if it's a door that doesn't need to be opened, then why open it?

Re: CS:S TPG Clan Tag: Should you be allowed to wear the TPG under the Clan Tag secti
I said I understand why people think it is a good idea but the problem is for all of the positives you have too many negatives. The issue is not with the people TPG has today, it is the people that will be drawn to the community tomorrow if you create a TPG clan. We want to allow as many people as possible to join but for the right reasons. A tag is not the right reason. The community is and TPG being a community opens a lot of doors that a clan does not. Yes, I understand you could do both but it would lead to confusion. Perseption is reality however unfair that may sound but what people believe to something to be...it is. These people are throwing their support for the world to see and while that is fine and dandy, all of their baggage comes along with that. If one TPG member with a tag on has an issue with some other clan then that clan would have an issue with our whole community. What gave the tag wearer the right to create friction between TPG and an unknown clan...his tag. That is not a right TPG wants to give out. It's a slippery slope.
The issue is that a tag wearer speaks for the clan. That is how people view it. If I say fuck you and try and crash your server wearing a TPG tag, what would you think of TPG? That issue and the fact that it limits the community, probably are the biggest negatives to tags. If you had a clan and a few clan members one day to change their tag, what would your response be? Nothing, well what if it go bigger and took more of your members and they split off and created an new clan leaving you with only a handful of people? Kick them , and loose loyal members who moderate your forums and admin your servers...it puts you in a difficult situation. By having a community you limit these issues. Sure everyonce in a while you loose a resident clan but all in all you are not hurt. How do you vote people in or out? Popularity contestest remind me of High School which I had a great time in but when I look back...I see how stupid it all really was. People know who the regulars are if you are a regular why do you have to flaunt it? I'm not saying that is what you mean but people will look at it that way. It becomes a way of dividing a new comers from regs and I for one do not want to see that.
I have nothing against you, I just disagree with the idea. I like the idea that this is everyones home and that new comers and regulars a like stand on equal footing. That is one of the pleasures of being here and makes it so much fun for everyone. I to have seen other servers with special tags for regulars but when I see it, I see a divide, not unity. Just my thoughts, while they differ from yours I know both of our hearts are in the right place...TPG!
Regards.

Re: CS:S TPG Clan Tag: Should you be allowed to wear the TPG under the Clan Tag secti
I'll say this once, if I see a TPG tag in the servers.. I give them 1 warning to change it. If they do not comply, ban. I have already done it about 10 times.
So... Don't do it. It won't happen..ever. So this is locked.
