Re: Map rotation idea.
Is there a way to limit which maps come up to vote for? So lets say when a map vote comes you have 5 maps to choose from: 3 bomb, 1 hostage, 1 custom. Therefore the RTV function is still there and we have a variety to vote for. Does that make sense or am I being a bit too simple minded? :P

Re: Map rotation idea.
This is something that was brought up in regards to tf2. We have ctf pl and cp(and koth) If the map vote comes up with all of one type it doesnt lead to much variety. The suggestion was made in the lonestar forum. Have say three lists: reg maps, customs and cs maps. Then the vote could draw say 2 maps from each list to put together the vote. Would ensure variety in the map vote.

Re: Map rotation idea.
This is something that more or less belongs in the LoneStar Improvements/suggestions section.
Most of the ideas you guys are proposing are possible. Just involves some basic tally of statistics, recently played maps, and polling this data prior to votes. Though the idea's you guys have are sound, they are still short sited, and in essence over complicated.
There are some basic things you have to consider within all automatic votes.
1) The votes cannot be limited to one map type based on previous maps. This poses severe problems during off-peak hours. Yes DE maps are the primary options, these are team-play maps.
2) You need to always offer a variety of choice. The server participants vote, and those are the votes that count. Regardless of how you feel about too much, or too little, it is what people want.
3) There are some maps that will rarely ever win, this requires some off the radar play to give exposure. Like SNF, and the match server custom tests. We need to -expose- and -promote- maps before they will ever win on the Reg/Top5 servers (with any regularity).
I long since suggested a rather complex system of vote offers. It entails a point system based on success rate. Offering maps that are off-beat when the point system tally is met. But I look back on it, and the real deal is simple. Toss a vote that does the following 4 options every time.
1) Random map
2) CS hostage map
3) Custom map
4) Top 5 map
This gives a variety every single vote on the regular CSS server. Top5 is top5. No awp/auto was a side-grade option but this server was always about being top5 voted maps. (really top7)
What you guys want is variety to succeed by enforcement, and we can get away with this during prime-time. But what about every other hour of the day? What happens when summer is totally over? I hope for the continuation of this dedicated and heavy population of Badass Regulars. To me this says volumes about how well TPG is doing as a community to keep everyone coming back.
Yes we need more variety, it brings in new blood. But we have to consider everyone else. And how to implement it in such a way that gives the opportunity for the same ol same ol, as well as the opportunity for something different and new. Do not limit, or try to control the vote. It is there for a good reason.

Re: Map rotation idea.
Even just a "nominate" or "listmaps" option with a menu where you can actually see which maps are on the server and able to nominate would be helpful. Like currently, when a team wins 12 rounds, a random map vote is brought up, and a lot of the time is garbage maps. How about on the 10th win, a nominate session is brought up, and people have 2 rounds to nominate maps, and the top 5 maps nominated get voted on after the 12th round is won. If a map was previously played within 3 or however many maps ago, it will be currently unavailable for nomination. Most of this should be in the LoneStar Improvements section, but most of the css regs don't even look in there. I wanted to get a good idea going with some inputs/suggestions and what people thought before I posted anything official.

Re: Map rotation idea.
I have already posted in regards to improving the nominate option. Your idea of opening up a menu of "Browse available maps" is a good idea, and would go well with the "open unlimited nominate, pend my nomination now!". I want to be able to nominate a map, and just let is queue if the RTV wins. Sometimes, the RTV will happen while I am still alive, and win nominations before I have a chance. I do believe that nominations should be viewable and queue capable. It should not be a race for typing nominate and hitting a few numbers.
It should be similar to the voting itself. Nominations that get the most of , are than put up for vote.
Edit: maybe the RTV win should bring up a nomination menu? Like every map there is everyone gets to nominate. It's two cycles of voting but will last at most 1 1/2 rounds. Top 3-4 nominations enter vote. Vote success = map change.Last edited by GReYVee; 09-05-10 at 09:05 PM. Reason: Ideas
