    Reality-check or rip off?

The only time I'd buy a facebook gift is if the proceeds were going to charity.
Actually, according to a news report I saw on G4, the average Second Life user logs on for 20 minutes. A month.

I downloaded it once, tried to design an avatar, got fed up with it and uninstalled it before ever interacting with anyone.

    Reality-check or rip off?

The game itself is free (for a basic account) and it does have certain elements that are interesting.

For example: We could all play the game, make an avatar, make a Lurking Mastermind business and have 3d staff meetings or something using voice. THAT would be cool, and then we could proceed to enjoy some virtual paintball or something.

You don't have to spend RL money if you don't want to, however that option is available.

Some people do go to the extreme though. Like one woman (out of probably hundreds or thousands) runs a RL business selling in-game property. She's even hired RL employees to build and design houses in game. She's made a very good RL living from selling 'fake' in-game 'things'.

    Reality-check or rip off?

and I have beachfront property in Arizona if anyone is interested in buying it.
These RL people and EL people are just caught up in a fad that will fade and they will look back on it and think "D'OH!"

    Reality-check or rip off?

My sister has one of those gift things on her Myspace... except they don't cost real money to give. Just a few clicks.
