    de_port issue

Hi, I’m the person who plays under the ‘OrangePeel’ tag. I’ve been to your CSS server a few times, and there’s an issue I want to address on de_port. At around 11:45PM CST 3/10, I was slayed a couple times by an admin during de_port. Knowing there was no way I could effectively explain my reasoning to the admin in the server, I decided to bring it up here, where no one can immediately kick or harass me.

I was a Terrorist, and interested in assisting my team plant the bomb. If you haven’t played the map before, here’s a picture of the map I found on the internet: http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/kasagi...5/b539b62f.jpg . After several rounds, I noticed that nearly all of my teammates kept going left toward Site A after exiting spawn. The path to the right of T spawn was uncovered, allowing CTs to run up the path and have a clear view of Site A. I decided to help my team safely plant the bomb by slowing down the CTs coming up this way. Now the T spawn is along the pathway. T spawn is a rather large place, with a kinda-sorta-transparent fence bordering the path. This same fence is also placed in other locations of the map, making me believe that the creator wanted players to be able to shoot through them. Anyways, I wanted to help my team complete the objective by hampering our opponents. Looking for good cover, the ramp leading down from spawn seemed to be good enough. I took my spot and waited for the enemy to come up the path. They did, and I successfully fought them off. I used this tactic in the round after, until I suppose the admin noticed the CTs losing (heh). I was slayed. I asked the next round what the reason for my death was, and the admin responded that camping in spawn wasn’t allowed. I had a problem with that accusation. It’s not like I was hiding in some hard to see, hard to get to corner. I was next to a wall, and the CTs had full knowledge I was there, with me furiously firing at them. Also, in the rounds I defended our flank, I was not carrying the bomb, so my teammates would not be annoyed with me in any way. The path is right next to T Spawn; are players supposed to put themselves at a disadvantage by foregoing good cover and exposing their flank because they’re afraid of being labeled spawn campers? If the creator did not wish for terrorists to be able to defend this pathway, the creator would not have put up a ledge with a see-through fence along it. As the server’s emphasis is on teamwork, I was doing exactly that. By stopping the CTs, it allowed my comrades to plant and focus on the dangers ahead. Is it permitted to do this?

Just to make sure there’s no bias toward me for disagreeing with an overall decent admin that kicks AFKs, there were several fellas who seemed like regulars that’ll concur that I didn’t go ballistics and scream and demand that the admin show him/herself. Hopefully they wont mind be put the spotlight on them: a couple guys with a BD tags, a couple others, I think one named Gideon that had this tag I couldn’t decipher, and one dude with a C2C tag named rockfish or something.

I suppose the short version of my question is this: In de_port, are Ts allowed to attack CTs from the ramp coming down from T Spawn?

I believe any type of spawn camping is against the server rules. Not 100% positive though.

Yes...provided that your team is aware of your intentions. This is a good strat but your team must agree with that tactic...and you must be able to defend the planted bomb ( you must be able to see it from your location)...if your team is aware they will plant where you can see it......it is possible that the admin was a T and did not agree with your decision....were you given any instruction by the admin Was your team complaining?

If your team wanted you to rush, you should rush. Usually camping spawn as a T on port is frowned upon...were I the admin I would've disliked that as well.

Also, this is in the wrong forum.

@Disposable: Aye, one can see the boat from where I was, and the admin did accuse me of spawn camping. My teammates weren't complaining about my strategy.

@Ravioli: You're right, I should have probably put this in the Triple I forum; my apologies. Want to tell me how I can move it? As for camping spawn as T, I wasn't holed up behind a car where it would take ages to find me; I was on the ramp from spawn, rushing out and firing at the CTs coming up. Rushing to the bombsite as a team is a good thing, but someone needs to cover our backside, which I was doing.

Covering the back is good. However, on many maps, port includeded, the rush is the critical part. getting fire around the corner and controlling the boat/warehouse is more important in the first 30 seconds than covering the ramp. Next time, at least help the rush by throwing a smoke or flash/frag over the fence. Once the bomb has a good shot at being on the boat, then you can move back to the ramp/spawn, and cover it.

The placement of T spawn does make it seem like any rear guard will be spawn camping. I applaud your tact and intelligence posting on the forums. We get a lot of people that come and just camp the spawn outright, with no intention of cover. Those people get kicked. We don't like them.

My advice: Don't be rear guard every round. If you spawn at the front, you should lead the rush. If you spawn toward the back, you can cover and provide other means of support. Leading a rush every few rounds will probably keep the admins off your back, and keep your team in the lead.

That's very good advice: Mix it up so the regs/admins don't see you as a consistent spawn camper.

It's very difficult to define Camping spawn as opposed to covering the flank...

Nevertheless: Hiding behind a car where no one can see you and standing on the ledge blowing the shit out of CT's are both spawn camping as long as you're in your spawn.

I appreciate your respectful post Orange. Spawn camping, on port particularly has been a grey area in the past. What is and is not considered spawn camping, what is too excessive, when does it change from covering the rear to full out hiding like a girl and popping off cheap shots at the CT's...it's really all down to what the ranking admin on the server feels is appropriate at the time. If a person was consistently, round after round camping T spawn, covering the rear or not, I could see how this would be seen as an issue and be addressed by the admin in charge. I also understand your point of view in that you were covering the rear, however it is the admins call and the fact that you didn't create a scene in the server and came in here to find out more is very impressive and we thank you for your maturity. In the future just keep in mind that at TTP we are ALL about teamwork, organized rushes and accountability. Sticking with the team and getting that bomb down is priority one.

Others have said it but this is a lesson I had to learn once, if you make your intentions clear to your team and the team approves then you are good to go. Use voice comms for this. Say "Im covering the silo side for the rushing CTs". If you dont get any feedback, you should be alright to go.

The problem is when the presumed leader of your team hollers out "Boat Rush, everybody!" and you stay back in spawn. Even with the best of intentions at heart you are disobeying the directive of your leader. Even though there is no formal structure of leadership in CS, sticking with the team when asked to do so is a cardinal rule around here. Port is a crazy map because of the view that exists from T spawn... you can snipe rushing CTs, you can snipe the boat, and you can practically cover the Silo bombsite as well. The temptation to hang back is strong but you must resist it when the team calls you to advance as one.

The flip side, and what makes an even better team player, is when you are covering that right flank with your teams blessing and you recognize mid-round that that is not the best place for you. Say two of your rushing teammates who went to the boat get killed right off the bat and you are in a little back and forth patty-cake fire fight with some CT... in that case, fall back and cover your team from closer.

The worst thing you can do is get pinched and become an island with enemies between you and your team. That's why it's usually the better strategy to follow the team rather than try to cover the rear, even if it does lead to great k:d scores.
