Post a tip to improve the skill of the community

A lot of us take things for granted in CSS, but at some point in time we either learned them or somebody showed us, etc.
Take a minute and post some tips and maybe somebody can learn from it?

I'll post a few to get us started:

    • When climbing ladders like on Nuke to get in Heaven, side stop left or right at the very top so that you don't block people below you. If you don't do this, it pops you up in the air and back down, but if you strafe it shoves you off to the side and the next guy can get out immediately.
    • On Nuke, you can smoke and flash through the skylights from the roof to help a T push upper (it blinds heaven and rafters). You can even hit the smoke for mini as far back as the truck area from T spawn. When your rushes and splits aren't work, hitting these can be a game changer and it's something we used in league play a lot.
    • Newbie tip of the day: don't automatically reload after every kill.

Ok. Please, make this a positive thread and post tips for others.

You can also go up ladders quicker by strafing and looking up while on the ladder. Works the opposite way for going down them as well. Useful in being a ninja in the vents on nuke, or any map that requires a fast move up the ladder.

in a 1 vs multiple situation a good way to get a jump on people is to be heard running one way and then walk back the way you came from. If you are lucky they will be looking the direction you were running to and you'll get an easy kill

Strafe jumping is a great way to make yourself harder to hit. While running forward hold a strafe key(a or d) and jump and let go of W. You'll do a quick air walk side ways which will make you a smaller target and hopefully eliminate part of their shooting view. Great places for this are jumping to woodpile on inferno, out of t mid on train, and from upper to lower b on d2.

If you are out of flashes sometimes throwing a smoke in place of the flash works just as well....follow the smoke faster than you would the flash and you can often catch the enemy turning to avoid the "flash" and get a free kill.

Another Nuke tip - if someone is sitting crouched on the AC unit people can just run and jump off his head and land on the AC unit. It's MUCH faster than the standard boost up to the pipe.

On inferno you can flash a banana rush from ct right side mid. If you look above the little gay cubby someone is always sitting in theres a gap in the wall. If you run and throw a flash through it, it will blind banana rushers. You used to not be able to throw smokes through there but that may have changed since they updated inferno.

on Inferno in banana site, if you are at the spindles there is a gap that you can shoot someone rushing onto site through. You have to be back enough to move around and let yourself see the gap but it's a pretty nifty little gay spot if you have the reflexes for it.

While trying to clutch, throwing nades and flashes around random corners does not help you. Just gives up your position.

Pay attention to the radar. I know it sounds incredibly basic, but it's amazing how many people don't use it.

I've lost count of how many times I've seen this scenario -- Ts rush, outnumbered CTs die before they can get a call off, no one rotates until bomb is planted and you hear "Wow, no call?" -.- That's been a common one the last few times I've been in the servers...Have also seen people not check a camping spot even though an enemy has popped up on the radar there...Always check it people!

This goes for any ladder that's climbable in the game: whenever you're following someone up a ladder, don't hug their ass, but try to stay a little bit behind. If you even touch them while they're coming off the top of the ladder, they'll be slowed down and they end up moving off of the ladder nearly twice as long as it would take them solo. It gets really annoying and it slows the process down for everyone.

TL ; DR Don't hug buttcheeks on ladders because it slows you down in the process.

    1) Don't throw a flash if you can see a teammate in front of you

    2) Don't be a homo and ride your buddies ass. He/she made need to strafe back quickly. You trying to have that close of a relationship during combat will block him/her out in the open, and get your buddy killed.

If you want to get better at aiming, use weapons that reward good aim and controlled shots. Don't use a p90 or shotgun every round and then complain about how you keep getting headshotted across the map as soon as you peek.

Don't attribute your deaths to 'bad reg' when the server isn't laggy (It usually isn't laggy). How well you do at the game is almost entirely how you respond to situations.

Treat each death is an opportunity to learn what to not do. Maybe flash that corner next time or pre-fire a common hiding spot.

Check everywhere. Don't run into a bombsite without checking all common hiding places, including the common cheesy ones that involve boosting.

Don't double peak a spot if you know an AWP is there. Most of the time it will kill you.

Please don't bait. Rush with the team. Don't lead a rush, and at the last min say, "I will go squeaky."

    Don't stack with your clan.

Make some calls, other than "Slow play", every round, even though it's a good strat, if you do it for 29 rounds (apx 60-90 mins) it's really annoying.
Australian-I feel for ya bro gaming on a piece of shit you should be twice as good at any game you play. Thats really really a scary thought. Part of me does not want you to get a new rig.

Check your corners. Corners are probably the most used strategic object in this game, a CT will point their gun at a corner and wait for you to come out. Make sure this doesn't happen by checking where the baddie will be, and be prepared to shoot first. If you're used to running out of a corner without looking try holding shift and walking around the corner. This helps a lot if you are entering a large area where there's a bunch of camp spots.

Learn the timings of each rush path. What I mean is this: when you are rushing long A on dust2, the CTs usually get there first, (and if they're good enough will make the nade in the connector regardless) but if you have the jump and flash over twice, you will always catch them blind and probably with a nade out. If you find the timings out perfectly and you know when to flash first, you will rush successfully. I've had some experience being on the receiving end of vafa's one man rush, and the reason he'll beat you is because he knows when and where.

Deduct and predict. If you've ever tried calling strats, you'll know that when you're facing a tough team, it helps a lot to try to figure out what the other team is doing and counter it. If you are a CT and the Ts are making successful rushes every round, buy 2 flashes and pre-flash. You'll do more damage with those two flashes than you can ever hope to with any gun.

I'll bump what sundance said, too. Check the radar, and check it a lot. It can reveal a lot of information, including where the enemy is. But don't catch yourself staring at the radar if you know you're in the line of sight of someone else's gun.

One more thing, a long time ago someone typed to me "pull that trigger", and at the time he was probably joking, but it stuck with me and I realized how true of a statement it could be. A lot of this game is 'who can shoot first'. Don't hesitate, even if they're far away. I can't tell you how many times I've been running with a p90 and see a guy across the map and I burst a few shots at him and I get a point. So shoot, shoot away...but don't miss, either.
Words are only limited to the effable, while the indescribable is merely found within ourselves.
