cs_ map strategies
Last night we were somehow able to get cs_militia and another one that I used to play a lot in 1.6 that I can't remember the name (it's the 2 store house with hostages and a sewer entrance into the basement).
We played the entire 15 rounds of militia (it was a little slow... 5 on 6 or something?), and we were doing the same on the next map but I had to sleep eventually. The other day we did 15 rounds on assault and Italy... That's the first time I've played a cs_ map in ages, and the first time on TPG since I started playing here in May.
With that said, it felt like it was just "goofing around" and hard to be serious about it because there was very little teamwork. Nobody really has any "strats" for cs_ maps... If you guys are serious about giving cs_ maps a go in the rotation to diversify things here and there then I think we need a good thread on some basic cs_ map strategies? Unfortunately, this is one area where I simply don't have many tips.
If some people can put out some basic information, maybe when these maps come up we can at least rattle off some basic ideas to put some competitive teamplay into a cs_ map?

Re: cs_ map strategies
Unfortunately, cs_maps involve one team simply camping an area (where they spawn) for the entire round. No fakes are possible, no 'catching rotators' or anything like that. Not to say that CTs can't organize timing pushes, smokes, etc. Its just a lot simpler than a de_ map.
Its also a little funny now how the newer guys are surprised by cs_ maps on the server. We used to play them all the time here (every 3rd or 4th map), italy and office being the most popular. But we stopped playing them because I assume people got bored with the very limited tactics the maps offer.
You are right though. Almost every time a cs_ map has ever come up, the CTs drop organization and just spread out. The map turns into a really long game of slowplaying, with a few "Hey, lets rush market!" type situations thrown in.We can do better.

Re: cs_ map strategies
Yes, what Max and Rad said is true. But we should still try to execute the timing right at least.
I think we need to make CTs "follow the call" in CS maps, like the Ts do in DE maps.

Re: cs_ map strategies
It definitely poses a problem with the Terrorists being able to camp a specific spot and not split between two bombsites. However, I think this situation is similar to a fumble play on a de_ map. If you know the terrorists are going to be camping in a certain spot then the timing on entering that area from more than one point, with proper use of flashes/smokes/he is really what it comes down to.
You're basically only eliminating the fakes and a divide and conquer tactic. I think you can still "divide", though it will be a more precision divide than a spread out de_ situation like on fire.

Re: cs_ map strategies
Ok so here is something I noticed. When approaching as CT on a cs_ map you can use your smoke not just to cover where you're passing through, but sometimes it's more effective to toss it where the enemy is, thus obscuring their view. It works well if they are in a window picking. Toss the smoke where they are and you can advance. You can do this with a flash, but the flash doesn't buy you enough time in a lot of cs_ instances to do what you need to do.

Re: cs_ map strategies
the only cs_map strat i have is for office, and that's probably because i've played more rounds of office than any other map. office has two spots where hosties are kept, the side office and back office. there are other maps with 2 locations also, like the 2 story house/sewer, but even when i played css long before tpg, they were always just slow play or rtv'd.
anyway, for office i guess you could call this the 2 step approach:
CT group A rushes the front offices, CT group B rushes garage/stairs/outside area.
when group A takes the long hall area, group B pushes into the middle offices outside T back office and holds it, while flashing the side office where the 1st group of hosties is.
group A then goes into the side office and takes the hosties out while everyone holds the T's in their back office. it's very important to get at least those 2 hosties for the $$$. you can buy all the m4's and nades you want every round if you get those 2.
then everyone gathers up and nades the crap out of any T's left in the back office before moving in for finish. we rolled something like 15-8 on office the other day against a good T team doing just this.

Re: cs_ map strategies
i'm saying ignore them completely. once you get the 2 hosties in the side office, focus on killing the remaining t's which should all be in the back office. you won't be able to rescue those hosties anyway without doing that first.
sometimes the last 2 hosties will die in the crossfire, but it's much rarer than you think. at that late stage, a few nades and flashes with a well timed rush does the job.
