Re: CS:S Help......something got messed up.
Add these lines to your autoexec.cfg if you have one, or just simply type them each individually in console~.
rate 30000
cl_updaterate 100 <---if the server tic rate is lower than 100 it will set this rate to the appropriate tic rate automatically. See note 1.
cl_cmdrate 100 <---if the server tic rate is lower than 100 it will set this rate to the appropriate tic rate automatically. See note 1.
cl_interp_ratio 2
cl_interp 0 <---this will NOT set your interp to 0. It will do the ratio/tic rate math automatically for you and set your interp accordingly. See note 2.
You should have a 30.3 lerp now on a 66 tick server (it would be 20 on a 100 tick server). If it is yellow or orange, increase cl_interp to .031, Keep slightly increasing your cl_interp value until you lerp has no color. This is the optimum lerp without packet loss or the maximum amount of time between interpolations/where others are rendered on your screen again withouth packet loss. This is fairly important for avoiding fire and aiming properly. Yellow means packet loss, Orange is a warning that packet loss is likely to occur, I do not know what Red is, but I am assuming it probably means your cl_interp is too high which could mean your cl_interp_ratio is not set to 2. Either way this should fix your problem.
For people like me that like to know where these numbers come from:
1 A note on cl_cmdrate and updaterate. Setting these at 100 is for 100 tick servers . When you join a 66 tick server they will both go to 66 automatically by default. This is why I keep mine both at 100 all the time. It simply doesn't matter and you don't have to change them if/when you ever join a 100 tick server.
2 A note on cl_interp and cl_interp_ratio. In order to calculate cl_interp it is recommended to use the ratio # divided by the tick rate to start with and then slightly increase your cl_interp from the calculated value until Lerp is no longer yellow or orange. For cl_interp_ratio 1 on a 66tick server 1/66=.015, 100 tick server 1/100=.01. For cl_interp_ratio 2 on a 66 tick server 2/66=.03, 100 tick server 2/100 .02. You can actually now just set your cl_interp value to 0 and it will by default make this calculation for you automatically based upon your rates and ratios.Last edited by MeBad; 08-09-11 at 11:18 PM. Did I say that or was I just thinking it?
