I don't think that would happen. If it got that bad, I think most politicians would either flee the country or support a surrender. Launching an attack as a last resort would be like committing suicide. Most politicians don't play the all or nothing game. They'll save themselves at any cost. Promise them amnesty or positions in the new government, and surrender starts looking pretty good.

As for an opinion on it? It's perfectly fine. We continue to do our cold war sorties and have for decades, for them to resume theirs after a long lull is nothing significant.

If Russia wants to fly some old as shit bombers around, let them. If they try anything, the state of the art fighters escorting them will put a few sidewinders up their asses before they can even get their bomb doors open.

They ran out of things to do politically, so they're trying something militarily and the result is laughable. The Tu-95 Bear bombers were no match for the F4 Phantom IIs that escorted them up and down the US coast. Let alone the F-15s and FA-18s that will be watching them now.

Hell, last year the Russians did this off of Alaska... Got the attention of a few F-15s.

No, it's the Soviet equivilent to the B52. Each engine has counter rotating props. It has a max speed of 575 mph and a non-refueled range of 9,400 miles and carried a max bomb load of just over 44,000lbs.

It's the fastest and meanest prop-driven bomber ever made. It's not a bad plane at all... it's just been outclassed by the technology it's running up against.
