Stats Vs. Teamplay
I hate to be "that guy".
You know "that guy". The dude who is brand new to a place, any place, and starts making outragous requests right off the bat. Well, normally, that's not me. Usually I make fun of "that guy", but I have something I want to bring up with the admins and players. Feel free to make fun of me. Here it goes:
It seems to me that tracking stats, and paticularly placing an emphasis on K/D Ratio over Flag Caps / Defends is in direct opposition to building a truely team-oriented player-base.
Now, don't get me wrong. I have played with several regulars on the server already who communicate well, and make attempts to organize their team. And that is awesome. But right now, it is the exception, not the rule.
All to often, I end up running past guys on my own team who are setting up sniping spots or MG positions, that are WAY behind our front line. They set up, and then wait, usually overlooking one of our rear flags, and wait for the enemy to over run me and anyone else trying to actually advance.
Or, people will start a map, go almost to the middle and then stop. They wait, not capping a flag and try to get kills. If they got kills, and then made the effort to cap, that would be fine. But they don't. They just keep waiting for other people to cap the flag while they try for kills.
I also see a real reluctance to block a cap in progress. All to often I see people waiting around the perimeter of a capture point trying to snipe, while the other team takes the flag.
And the list could go on and on.
My idea, would be to change the ranking process, placing the importance on Capuring, Defending, kills, and deaths respectively. Maybe have bonuses for capturing with larger groups. Say six people take a flag that only requires two, then everyone would get "bonus score".
I know ya'll use PhycoStats, but I don't know if any of this is possible with them. I don't even know if there are any stats programs out there that would do this, but it might be worth looking into.
Personally, I would love this. And I think it might give this server an extra edge that other don't. It would also reflect the name of the server better, imo.
Whatcha'll think?

So are you askin bout in-game ranks?
Or are you askin that having more flags bring the rank higher... or what.

Well...maybe a little.
I know you have caps listed. But they aren't THE stat of choice. And I didn't see anything about "Defends". Not to mention the Capture stats are buried under the "Awards" section of the stats page.
From what I can see and what I've read, it seems that the emphasis is on your K/DR and the K/DR of your victims/killers.
I think stats are great, but I also think they should reflect the type of game you play. K/DR stats are more for Deathmatch than CTF.
The whole basis of DOD is flag capturing and with teamplay being a central idea behind this server, I think it would be more fitting if the stats showed the biggest team players.

Look man....psychostats is a program. A log reading, stat compiling, database making program.
We can change a few things about how the program works, such as how many hours or kills it takes to get ranked. But the amount of "skill" it attributes to flags and defends, or caps vs. KD's........is not something we can just edit. It's part of the standards used to calculate ranks. And regardless of how we change it, if we even could, there's always going to be ways to pad your stats, and ways to rank higher than you really deserve.
In addition, if you'd like to check around for other's using psychostats, you'd find that we are one of the few and the proud to actually be measuring flag, accuracy, and hitbox data. We have to jump through a lot of hoops, and keep updated in several plugins to keep this up. It aint perfect, I agree.......but it's as good and as detailed as it gets.
If you bust your ass, capturing flags and winning rounds...you're rank is going to go up. Partially because, if you were actually busting your ass and capturing flags.....you'd be kiling people that were trying to stop you from doing that. It all gets added up......trust me.
But hey.....we didn't write psychostats. We just use it. By all means, take it up with www.psychostats.com. Ask for storm trooper. And then find the statsme minimum guys (Roger Devil) and ask him what his problem is, and why the stats aren't fair.
But one thing I know, damn sure.......I kill a lot of people. stat tracking in CS is similar to DoD, where you get points for hostages and bomb plants, just like for flags and captures.......but back to me killing people....
I kill a lot of people. My KD fluuctuates, and averages out in the 1.5-2:1 range for the most part. I fight my ass off. But on days where I do some real deal killing, with a 5:1 KD during primetime on italy, or dust........I don't see my psychostats shoot up and make me a top 100 player.
I only see that when I get the bomb planted, rescue some hostages, and win rounds. Having the KD helps (cuz without it, you can't get ranked high), but there's plenty of players out there with good KD's that ARE NOT in the top100, or even top1000, frequently.
I believe what you're asking is already taking place, some what.......but it's just hard to see that.

I cap flags when I can, but I make sure that I am going to live (except for game winning caps) before I run into the cap point. I think it is more important to kill the enemy and stay alive first, then cap the flag and advance to the next point. There are exceptions, the final flag cap I usually just run for it and hope I live.
