The people who get hurt are those of us who played during the 'golden age' of the 90s and (sometimes) early 2000/2001. Those who started their gaming hobby after that time will never have anything to compare their current gaming experience to.

I hate to sound like another person who is simply trying to state, "The world is getting more ignorant as our knowledge about technology increases."...but it is.
That's just how I look at it - It's so risky to take a leap foward and to try to do something that's out of the ordinary and unique. It's a huge financial risk.

I also really think the decline of started with the sudden rise of the console.

Now I'm mostly a console player - so no one can call me a PC fanboy, but I think with the advent of console games, was the decline in quality games that were so vast that they immersed the player in the gaming world. Truth is - the PC is capable of so much more than the console is. You're affored so many more options in terms of controlling the game than you are in console games. Not to mention consoles usually means a more casual gamer, simply because its cheaper and more simple. And this has taken its toll in my opinion. I wouldn't care but its obvious its also affecting PC games as well. Heres an interview of the developers of Deus Ex - they even admit they changed aspects of the PC game, such as the interface and lowered map sizes because of memory restrictions.

YouTube - Deus Ex: Invisible War Post-Mortem (Harvey Smith)

    1:27.

He also mentions how developers need to cater to a large audience, because "they're taking 20 million dollars of somebodys money."

I honestly think xbox and consoles killed Deus Ex.

I borrowed this game from a friend and it's like a drug. I can't quit playing it. I started playing it on multiplayer, despite the warning that I should do campaign first. I'll tell ya, that was frustrating lol. I did have some good 7-1, 8-3, 12-4 games but had ALOT of bad ones. I'm now running through the campaign. One level at the airport was quite disturbing. They wanted me to kill civies? uhhh no thanks. I just walked behind em the whole time and watched the slaughterfest.

I love the fact that multi doesn't have any achievements cuz it's hard to nail the multi achievements in most games unless you "cheat".
