    Tips to improve your gameplay

Unzoomed guns in this game fire bullets to random spots, within a preprogrammed circle. One bullet can go 10 degrees left, and the next one will go 15 degrees to the right and 10 degrees up. You never know, it's a game of dice. The focal point is your gun and spreads out like a cone from there. Rifles have a relatively small "cone", while the MG's cone is slightly larger, then Support, then Assault. Shoot at a wall, you will see.

Crouching or laying down has no effect on the randomness, but does affect how much "jump" or recoil your gun has. However, movement affects randomness. Shooting while running gives you a giant cone of fire. For accurate shooting, I suggest stopping movement completely before you fire (unless you're point blank, and even then, you will see a lot of missing).

Due to the randomness of this game, it is better to go full auto with automatics than to shoot in bursts (IF you can control the recoil jumping). This way you have more and faster chances of hitting your target.

Rifles: Unzoomed Rifles are fairly accurate, although they are not pinpoint accurate. To be accurate, make sure you are completely standing still before you fire. At close/medium range, you can go ahead and aim at the chest of the enemy. This will guarantee an upper body/headshot. At medium-long range, place your crosshair on the center of the enemy (stomach). This will ensure the highest chance that at least something will be hit.

For long range rifle usage, you need to use your ironsight. Ironsight shots appear to be pinpoint accurate. The ironsight always aims at the exact same spot where your crosshair was pointed. So point the crosshair at the enemy first, and then activate ironsight. You can just shoot immediately, it will hit exactly where you aimed. This trick can also be used for follow-up ironsight shots.

using your ironsights while you're watching a far off area is a bad idea when the enemy can come from more than 1 direction. since the ironsight will be blocking most of your view.

I don't know what all this cone mumbo jumbo is.....but, I would say if you can shoot things and do well in america's army....you do do it as well in this game.

It certainly is more demanding than CS in that you really need to make that shot....rather than just jumping around like a ninny and picking up miraculous amounts of trash.

The "cone" refers to the way a simulated bullet travels from the muzzle of a gun in the Source engine. Imagine a 3D cone extending from the end of your gun and getting wider as it gets longer. When you fire, a bullet is sent out at an angle anywhere inside that cone. This simulates the way a gun wavers in your hand as you aim and jumps around as you shoot.

be nice if they just made the gun waver....instead of making us imagine it's wavering by explaining cones and other such nonsense.

honestly. And the figure 8 scope drift on the sniper rifles.....what the hell is that....some kind of joke?

And then after we get cones....how about we get real bullets that drop over distance, that are affected by wind and rain, in addition to having a velocity, so we have to lead moving targets.......how about that?

    OFP had that....in like 2003

real bullets that drop over distances would add so much decal lag it would not even be funny. maybe in a couple of years when computers are more powerful.

right now its possible but the bullets that fall to the ground would have to dissapear in a matter of seconds, and that would look pretty unrealistic.

btw heres a performance tip that might work for everyone with an nvidia card:

Ah, Opperation Flashpoint. I loved that game so much. The only other game I have seen with anything like that would be Joint Opperations.

    bullets.....decal lag......

I'm not talking about ejected brash and shells on the ground (which CS and DoD already have.....at least the shell casings that disappear over time).....I'm talking about bullet trajectory.

If a computer can run all the stuff it's running currently to do CS and DoD.....it can certainly change the trajectory's of bullets from straight lines to arcs. It's a simple equation that would add nothing to computing cycles.

in addition to this feature being present if older, and current FPS games such as america's army and old school OFP.

oh, trajectory. i thought you were talking about real bullet models coming out of the guns and ricocheting off walls and rolling over the floors and stuff. and im not talking about tracers or ejected shells..

but hey atleast the rockets follow that, lol...
