Used to own a Garand, own an M1A SOCOM II now, and a buddy of mine had a gorgeous collector's grade Kar98 with a 100xxxish serial number.

Can't vote, as I find these two to be very close, albeit in slightly different ways.

The garand is probably, just, more all around useful, for a lot of reasons already stated. The kar is slightly better at longer ranges though. The kar is also a better training weapon, forcing you to practice making every shot count. Dunno what that's worth.

Oh, the machine gun option in the poll is interesting, as these two weapons are the bane of MGs! :P

Personally I seem to do better with the K98.. Only on really good days do I do well with Garand.. So I'll typically say K98.. just my skill capacity. Though there are times I've made a kill with every bullet in a Garand... it's so much easier to do with a K98. For sheer killing capacity.. K98 wins... against multiple hostiles... and a steady luck shot.. Garand can do better... not often.

K98. For some reason I think it is more accurate. The only downgrade is it is bolt action where the Garand is Semi. But you have to use all 8 rounds for the garand to reload it. So they both have perks and disadvantages.
